The Twilight saga is a giant piece of shit. Stephanie Meyer's writing is incredibly derivative and shallow. The characters are very thin, even the primary ones.

But Weitz drastically improved the source material he had to work with. The movie is much better storytelling than the book it is based upon, and that's because of the screenplay.

The point I was making was not actually about the writers. I hope the change in writer at this late date (much like with Ant Man) is not indicative of some kind of growing creative rift between Disney and Edwards, similar to what led to Edgar Wright leaving.

Oh, I see. I have a feeling it's due to the shift in tone created by Abrams' dismissal of Arndt and footage of Episode VII.

Gotcha. The whole Edgar Wright thing is odd to me. He'd been working on Ant Man with Marvel since like 2007-2008. After more than seven years, they have a script, a solid cast and poof! Wright is gone.

They knew he made somewhat quirky, humorous films and suddenly, they change gears, with Adam McKay and Paul Rudd re-writing the entire script?

The holdup on Trank's announcement must be the script. Unless they've decided to completely switch gears, Ewan McGregor has already said he's on board.
