Is it just me or...

Does it seem that Dorsey is trying to build for a run after the Manning era ends in Denver?

Sorry, he has to be much better than that to make the trade a "good" trade. Oh, and win a playoff game for the second time in his 9 year career.
Your opinion is noted.

Smith, while hardly being ideal considering the Chiefs overall fail at addressing the QB position, was the best option that year for staunching the flow of blood. It wasn't so much an investment or a win-now as it was a "my God this situation is a heaping pile of shit and this is the best we can do for it, and Andy wants him"-move.

They'll either get the contract they want or they'll move on.

Maybe its my blind homerism finally shining through, but i tend to think he has a plan and he will stick to it. Dorsey seems to not give a **** about short term drafting, or drafting for need. In reality with the other teams in the conference as well as our division thats a pretty smart way of doing things. There is absolutely no point in mortgaging the future now, to have a slim chance at beating out the Broncos. This imo is something that neither Carl nor Pioli did. The guy is going to draft much like the packers do and draft some replacements for the older players. I think mostly though he sticks to his board. Hes simply not all in.

It seems to me that the only exception to this philosophy is the Alex Smith trade, realistically it was a smart trade. Get a player who can give us a shot at winning a championship, while giving the franchise some stability going forward. Im guessing Hunt probably played a big roll in the trade, as he likely demanded wins now. Really its a bargain of a trade if Smith continues to play the way he did in the later part of the season. The other thing is that quarterbacks seem to be playing much longer now. I can see Alex potentially playing for another 5 seasons so long as he continues to play at a high level. i do however believe that they will not hesitate to replace him should he falter.

It really is the packer mold of building a team. I completely expect a 1st round qb in the next couple of years with a qb being picked up in the later rounds most drafts. We aren't going to over spend on replaceable players, nor will we spend heavy in free agency. Dorsey will continue to work on building a consistently competitive team through the draft.

We can only hope that he manages to hit on a qb in the future, or that Alex Smith continues to grow so that we have a legitimate shot at a championship with this group of players. I think it is a real positive however that Dorsey isnt already all in behind Alex. He's playing a wait and see approach that i think is far better in the long run.

Not true. Smith played very well for the 5 games you're talking about. He played well in many others. For example go back and look at the Philly game. In particular that huge 3rd down throw he made in the 4th from his own end zone to Avery. It was big time. I bet you didn't count that game in your assessment of good ones. Point is in the games you're not giving him credit for, he made the plays to win. Taking into consideration that the Chiefs had a different philosophy before the bye week, he played well in most games.

I'm not going to give a QB credit for sitting back and letting the defense be the main reason for a 9-0 start, sorry. You want to give him credit for barely beating a Philly team that turned the ball over 5 ****ing times? GTFO

I wouldn't sign Smith to a new deal before this year. I'd be spending all that time working on extensions for Berry and Houston. You get those two locked up and you can franchise Smith if he has a good year. If he doesn't....his price comes down or you let him walk.

Don't know, but Smith was 28 when the trade was made and turned 29 last May. He just now turned 30, so If you're implying the Chiefs did that with Smith you're dead wrong. If you're just asking a question, I don't have that answer.

Yep. That's exactly what I'd do as well now.

Absolutely. Unless you get a great deal now, you play the wait and see game.

You don't have to give him credit. Your opinion means jack shit (as does mine). You're right, the defense was exceptional early on and was the main reason for most of the victories, BUT Smith played within the confines of the offense and game plan at the time. When it was time for him to make plays - he did - like in the Philly game. (Dallas game as well) For that I absolutely do give him credit for being a good QB for more than just the 5 games you gave him credit for being. We have far different opinions on the matter. So think what you want and I'll do the same.

I think Dorsey is building for the present and the future. I think this front 7 might be the best in franchise history (on paper). Definitely a lot of potential there.
They attacked our biggest weakness with first 2 picks and are relying on Commings to solve another.

Can this team not compete this year? If the offense keeps playing well and improving like last year then I think there is no reason why we can't make the playoffs again.

Of course it could be the opposite as well, but I just can't see an Andy Reid coaches team with this much talent not winning at least 9 games.

Is there a team we play that we just can't compete with? Bc I think we can compete with the tough teams this year.

Like I've said before. This FO is banking a ton on the young players on this roster. It's either going to bite them in the ass or make them look like geniuses. All I can do is sit back and watch.
