So I pronounced it like 99.99% people would. Only to be told by her it's pronounced "Af-reek-a". she got all huffy about it.

My dad used to work with a loan officer named Dick Long. He was as douche-y as you would imagine. The really bad part about it is that the bank put out its inter-office directory last name first so if you needed to call him, you had to look up Long, Dick.
