Big 10 looks pretty weak this year. Should have a shot.

Oh, cool. That would be nice. I haven't looked at next year's recruiting class at all yet but he'd be a huge get.

Plus, he's just a horrible passer. Can't tell you how many times he's passed the ball to the defender RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM! AAnd lastly, he cannot guard anyone. Seems like all he wants to do is stand around the 3-point line and shoot. Wow, way to give it up for the team, Svi!

Frankly, I'd bench the guy until he decided to play defense. Hells/bells, give me Lightfoot or ANYONE else who might give a rats ass about hustle and solid team play. Time to get down and dirty, Svi.

Goddam what a terrible post.

He's younger than Josh Jackson.

Yeah, Svi's young, but not exactly in a basketball sense as he's been playing since forever. His rebouncing and defensive skills are simply horrible. He's played enough ball by now that these skills should be MUCH more refined.

Are you not watching these games? His guy can pretty much blow by him at will. ....and that has very little to do with the fact that he's younger than Jackson. THAT has to do with improving a basketball skill which from the way I see it, just hasn't improved. All the kid wants to do is shoot. Very, very limited. And, if that's how he wants it, I'd sit him until I saw a bit more effort. Probably just me though....

BTW, part of my frustration with Svi is that he has SO MUCH to offer. The kid is loaded with innate physical talent, and I want to see him reach his potential. At his present rate, that ain't gonna happen. Anyway, I like Svi a LOT, just want him to be the player I KNOW he can be!!!

None of our perimeter defenders can stop anybody this year, so it shouldn't all be directed at Svi. This teams help defense is especially heinous. The guy has had limited time playing in the previous two years, plus when he has played there wasn't much need to rebound with the bigs he has been around. Add in the fact that the kid has mainly played PG for his Ukraine national team so there hasn't been much skill development towards that fundamental. Quite frankly, as I'm sure you know, rebounding is one of those things that comes naturally. A guy has a sense for it or he doesn't. Maybe he'll figure it out!

I think there's a lot more going on. We're playing a different type of set offensively which mean players are having to adjust the defense based on the offensive personnel. That takes time. The absence of a shot blocker usually dictates a worse defensive rating. The adjustment to calling fouls to allow more free range of motion makes players gun shy about playing defense more aggressively.

Now, I'm sure some of it is what Self alludes to when he talks about "pride". But has anyone really looked across the college basketball landscape and thought, "that's a scary good defensive team"? They've changed the rules to promote scoring, I can't quite figure out why people are so perplexed about the lack of defense. Does anyone remember our players seemingly fouling out every early game this year?

Our team can score. The college game is evolving into a more pro-offense mentality because fans like that. It will take a while for defenses to adjust. I don't mean in terms of games, I mean seasons, from a coaching perspective. But, we're not going to see the classic lock down defenses like many of Self's past teams were, and I'm sure its going to be grudgingly acknowledged by Self. If the rules are there to promote offense, maybe we should just come to terms with that.

This team will be fine because it can score. It will be in closer games, too. I'm not so sure the end result is going to be much different. We'll still win a lot more than we lose. I think we'll see a lot more uses of junk defenses to throw the rhythm off for the opposition. I think that will ultimately be the adjustment.

Was a 4-star prospect out of high school. Averaged 9.5 PPG in 10 games at ASU this year. Seems like a pretty unexpected move for KU. Anything beyond that I have no idea, honestly.

I'd like to point out this part of your otherwise good post......

Missouri State will win more than they lose too. That's not the bar as far as I'm concerned.

We don't get better defensively and have more of an inside presence, it's going to be an early exit again, in the tourney.
