Bo Jackson named greatest athlete of all time

Royals fans knew they were watching a once-in-a-generation athlete. Now, ESPN’s Sport Science has weighed in, naming former two-sport superstar and Royals outfielder Bo Jackson the “Greatest Athlete of All Time”. The Sport Science study looked at many attributes, including speed, power and reaction time. Jackson earned the nod from the Sport Science panel, beating out the legendary Jim Brown.

ESPN will air a “Sport Science Greatest Athlete of All Time” special next Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 CT.

A poll is currently online at ESPN.com, with Jackson and Michael Jordan in a close race for the fan vote :

Bo was so amazing, a lot of his feats go relatively unnoticed. I was working as a food vendor in the stands when he had his first outfield assist, gunning the Twins Mickey Hatcher out at third when Hatcher was trying to go from first to third on a single to right field. When Bo made that throw, the cheering started like that and then, for a moment, the stadium got very quiet while the fans registered the flight of a ball thrown so deadly hard and straight from so far away, then as the glove was applied and the runner was called out, the cheering resumed and boomed. Bo had just been called up and everyone was talking about his prodigious batting practice home runs. The intense fans knew that he was supposed to have a great arm. But when all of the fans in Royals Stadium that day actually saw that cannon in action, it was so dazzling that it caused stunned silence.
