Anybody see Lexi Thompson get totally screwed by the LPGA today?

I was watching this on live TV a few minutes ago. This is bullshit. They've got to change this bullshit rule.

Quote:
Leader Lexi Thompson hit with 4-stroke penalty a day later at ANA Inspiration

Cameras were rolling as then-leader Lexi Thompson was informed by a rules official that she be assessed a 4-stroke penalty Sunday during the final round of the LPGA Tour’s ANA Inspiration.

A television viewer watching a delayed version of Saturday’s third round alerted tournament officials that Thompson had placed her ball in a different spot than where she marked it before putting on the No. 17 green. That led to a retrospective 2-stroke penalty in addition to a 2-stroke penalty for signing for the wrong score after the third round.

Thompson held a 2-shot lead at 16 under when she was informed of the penalty from a day earlier while walking to the No. 14 green and suddenly trailed by two at 12 under.

She still has a chance to win the tournament despite this bullshit. She birdied the next hole (even though she was fighting back tears) and Suzanne Peterson bogied it. So in about 5 minutes she went from leading by 2, to trailing by 2, to tied for the lead.

Why are you hung up on how the cheating was discovered?

Mine was that I shot a great round in the Tourney, but my group did not finish within 15 minutes of the group in front of us, so each member in my group incurred a stroke penalty for slow play. One of my buddies lifted his ball to check if it was his, and did not replace the ball properly and got DQ'ed from the club championship.
Oh...so what happened to her has never happened to you and your buddies, as you claimed.

Listen, I don't care what you claim, or how much you play golf....it's ****ing stupid to let Joe Schmo call in from his home and point out penalties. You're letting a fan manipulate the game. Who's to say that he didn't see other penalties committed, but only pointed out hers because he's not a fan of hers. Fans shouldn't have that kind of influence on any sport.

1. She deserved the penalty for moving her ball, no doubt about it. It was clearly moved.

2. I disagree with retroactive application of penalties, especially because of fan viewers. Penalties should be assessed immediately following a stroke taken after the infraction occurs.

3. There should be officials watching for this type of thing in tournament play, not "gentleman's" self-policing. In today's game with millions of dollars at stake and worldwide viewing, have game officials that make these determinations on the spot.

She knowingly signed a inaccurate scorecard rules are rules. The argument that it was only noticed by a tv viewer we dont know but the pga reviewed it and enforced the rule.

The golfer is solely responsible for his or her scorecard this is why I say she knowingly signed an inaccurate scorecard. Also it probably was the USGS. Have they had a press conference on the?

Do we as weekend warriors play to these rules , probably not unless its for money.

Does the LPGA/PGA have people that watch the players? I know they do but if those guys don't call it then it should not be accessed. There should be officials that follow each group watching for infractions as well as someone watching the group on TV. If they don't call/catch the infraction and have the infraction imposed before the next round it should not be imposed at all.

Same in the sense that I was penalized a stroke. I wasn't playing slow it was other people playing slow. I disagree that it's stupid. She should have called the penalty on herself, why should joe schmo have to call in? She should have called the penalty on herself. She didn't realize it. Okay...but you still got caught. You are of course welcome to review footage for golf tournys of the future. best of luck. The "fan" isn't manipulating the game. A golfer is holding another golfer to the rules. If you think the "fan" is wrong, then don't complain when people don't blow the whistle, because it amuses me to no end that people perceive the problem as the viewer and not the golfer that broke the rules. I am arguing for your soul, man.
