The Revenant awesome trailer

Didn't find anything on a search so sorry if repost, movie looks like an instant classic and apparently based on the Richard Harris movie Man In The Wilderness

Ugh! It is a very dark movie. I screamed at one part and had to close my eyes in other parts. Not that great a plot imo.

DiCaprio was vomiting for real when he took bite of the liver from that bison. I couldn't stop retching at that scene. Also, read it was grueling to shoot and they didn't rely on green screens. The crew quit on the director it was so grueling due to the environmental conditions.
You do know the film is based on actual events for the most part?

Yes, I knew that before I went. I knew about the bear attack but not the whole story which I looked into afterwards. Since it's Hollywood, I thought there'd be some artistic tweaks that result in a better story should it be needed. ( Didn't know beforehand.)

All those men did most of the time, was fight and argue with little relief. The one time there was some decent moments was when that Indian helped Glass. Then even he winds up hung.

I enjoyed the movie. Awesome real cinematography, guess the movie was shot in natural light. Only problems I had w/ it. The CGI was really ehhh at best. I understand it's not a movie focusing on special effects etc, but they could have done a lot better job IMO. Also the ending just kinda cut you off. Guess I was expecting a little more wrap up.

I'm pretty sure other than the bear and horse cliff scene, there wasn't any other CGI. I thought both scenes were very well done

You're right, it was bleak, however life wasn't shits and giggles on the frontier circa 1820. Sometimes a movie like this is a good reminder how raw and base existence was for early Americans. The pace and tenor of the movie had purpose and I appreciated it.

This movie will only appreciate over time I believe. Not like so many that are forgotten weeks or months later.

There was a picnic table scene where the frontiersmen were laughing and joking, the french dudes.

Maybe a new Notebook movie will come out or something that you would like.

Is that the scene where they butt raped the Indian girl being searched for by her father? Yeah, I think it's that one. I liked that scene up to the rape because I speak French. Plus some of those pellets could make nice fur coats and collars.

You crack me up. I didn't care to see the Notebook if I remember even seeing it.

Well, it's not like I expected them to be in luxury RVs in the movie.
I know it was bleak back then, but it was just too raw and nasty for me including the tone between the men. Coulda' used a bit more relief. Again, the plot was just so-so, imo. My so felt the same about the latter.

I would really love to read production notes on it—like how they did the grizzly bear attack.

The director said he didn't want to use green screen—or at least much.
The scene where his wife floats above him as a hallucination had to be green screened though.

Cinematography was really awesome. The filmed in Canada but it got too warm, so they went to Argentina as the seasons reverse. That was interesting.

i don't think many women will be fond of this movie. I loved that it was almost tiresome watching Leo get back to "strength".. it was realistic and not so hollywood. Leo deserves an oscar.

I saw both this and The Big Short this weekend. Both are award worthy, both for different reasons.

Tom Hardy was 10 times better in this than Leo...and Leo was really good.

Tom Hardy and Leo were both excellent. But too many Indians were way too old.
