Da'Rick Rodgers Released

Chiefs release WR Da'Rick Rogers
Adam Teicher, ESPN Staff Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Talented but troubled wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers was released by the Kansas City Chiefs just hours before they were to begin their mandatory minicamp. Da'Rick Rogers has caught only 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns during his NFL career.

Rogers, 23, was one of the SEC's best wide receivers in 2011, when he caught 67 passes for more than 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns for Tennessee. But he was subsequently thrown off the team for disciplinary problems and transferred to Tennessee Tech.

Rogers has been unable to make it in the NFL. He signed with the Chiefs, his third NFL team, in January but hadn't been impressive during offseason practice. The Chiefs also may have felt comfortable releasing Rogers because of the emergence of rookie wide receiver Chris Conley, who has played well in practice.

Rogers pleaded guilty in May in Indianapolis to resolve a 2014 DUI case. He was sentenced to one day in jail and six months of probation.

The Chiefs also released offensive lineman Kelvin Palmer, who recently signed as a free agent, and signed offensive lineman Tavon Rooks of Kansas State.

@adamteicher: #Chiefs first mini camp practice is done. They wasted no time in getting Marcus Peters involved. He was in the first team nickel defense

Maclin has good hands.

Charles has his share of easy drops, Kelce has fumble issues, and Conley is an unproven rookie.

Every offense needs a guy you can depend on to catch that 3rd down pass. It's a security blanket just like a slow but sure handed TE is.

We'd all love for every WR to have game breaking speed. Same at HB. That's just not the case. Just like there are short yardage HB's there are possession receivers...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

If you can't depend on the receiver to catch the ball, then he shouldn't be starting. The guys you mentioned catch the ball with regularity.

You can't sit there and say "im not throwing to Kelce because he MIGHT drop it". That's silly.

There's no promise that Avant will catch it either. Hell, there's no promise he'd even be open, so why take a better player off the field? We're talking about a player who peaked around 600 yards. He got cut by the Panthers mid season and produced nothing for them in a more featured role.

Now all of a sudden he's a go to guy in a drive's most crucial moment?

Not buying it, sorry.

Other than Maclin and Conley these are all the same $#itbags we had last year.

You act like we have options. What options?

If some team doubles Maclin it's right back to the worst set of WR's in the NFL...

This is year 3.

We made the ****ing playoffs in year one.

There is absolutely no excuse for not making the playoffs this year. Dorsey/Reid have had 3 full offseasons to build the team of their dreams...

Nah.

Wilson and DAT played well when healthy and both should take a step forward in the offense. Plus, if you're going to play the "Injury Game", the same could be said for dozens of teams across the league.

Why is everyone acting like these receivers have no experience in Reid's system?
DAT wasnt given much of the playbook and neither was Wilson. DAT was still learning how to run routes well. He's still learning today.

These two have such a small window of live experience running Andy's playbook. I would be shocked if they were used in 40% of the playbook.
How could you not tell with DAT last year? He was used mostly for jet sweeps and screens.
I think this offense will look better bc of 4 things:

1. Alex is in his 3rd year in the system.
2. We have elite caliber weapons in JC, Kelce and Maclin.
3. The OL should be average at worst.
4. We finally have a multitude of weapons who can get YAC and get open fast.

I think that our WR's will be very solid at first. I just don't think it will happen opening week right off the bat.
The offense will still be lethal IMO bc of the OL improvement and out 3 elite caliber weapons.

Related to 1... Many of these players will be in another yr and offseason of the scheme to fine-tune their game. No small benefit.

Why are we arguing about Jason Avant?

He will be on this team this season, because the receivers after Maclin, Wilson and Conley are garbage.

They'll need him to stop gap until Conley gets up to speed.
