I do respect that Hunt recognized the need to fire Pioli and Peterson. Despite how he voted, it was clear he led the change to get rid of Pioli. I respect that he hires the big names and spends a lot of money on coaches. I completely disagree with anyone who says he's cheap -- anyone who says that has no idea how the salary cap works.

I think the problem is, he's not a football guy. He backs the big name candidates. Then gives them too much authority and trusts them too much. I don't blame him for giving Reid/Dorsey the directive to win now at all costs -- for that, he deserves blame for what led to getting Alex Smith IMO. Re-signing Smith... I still think that's all Andy Reid and that Hunt's problem is he trusts Reid too much.

The Hunts learned that lesson well and anyone that thinks it is just coincidence that a QB has not been drafted by three different GMs since then is a good prospect for a bridge I would like to sell.

What do u mean? He has mastered the 3 yard dumpoff, if the opposing team plays prevent he can win. He has proven that. We only need to convince the other team that Alex is going Deep every play then it's just cake.

We need 3 things:

1) A legit deep threat at WR, that can catch the ball, that we don't currently have.
2) An offensive line that isn't, at one position or another, CONSISTENTLY failing on every single drop back.
3) Phat Andy leaning more on the run and less on his pass-first mentality...

I still don't understand why Herm gets lumped into this conversation. He wasn't a good coach (though not nearly as bad as people claim he is). But keep in mind that even if he backed the wrong QBs (Croyle, Thigpen), he's the only one with the balls to insist upon playing a young QB even when his GM had a boner for Damon "win now" Huard. Herm/Kuharich's time in KC was the most progressive we've had in KC and it's the only regime in a very long time that can brag about leaving the team in a really good place -- he replaced an entire roster of aging veterans with a lot of really, really good young players.

Herm was a HORRIBLE HC but his sweet spot was the draft.

Yes, people love to talk about how how under Carl things divided (responsibility) much differently but Carl almost always gave final say to his HC.

And Herm drafted more quality talent than ANY HC since...

Exactly. I'm still firmly of the belief that the lack of a deep passing game last year was a function of a lack of trust, not a loss of prior ability, for Alex. That's why I was hammering for Steve Smith last off season. He was EXACTLY what Alex needed, an 'I got this, believe that' WR that he doesn't even need to think about throwing to.

The O-Line just exacerbated that problem. When you have to think 'who can catch' on every down, WHILE facing a jailbreak from all sides, it's a recipe for all out fail.

And how many times did we laugh and laugh and laugh when the end of game's numbers were something like 6 rushes for 40 yards and Fat Andy's presser reiterated the 'we probably should have used Jamaal more' line?
