I'm about to watch the home run derby. This would replace extra innings if FIFA was in charge of baseball.

You're shitting me! The world championship game for "the most popular sport in the world" would have more viewers than a baseball game that has no bearing on the standings. Color me surprised.

Your posting skills are on par with your thread starting skills.

A fairly good cross section of his skills on the pitch. Note how close to his feet the ball always is, how quickly he can cut and change direction [particularly how often he cuts the ball between the defenders strides], and how compactly his shots are launched.
Messi is a demigod. He is probably the best player of all time as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, we had Cruyffs, Zidanes, Platinis, Beckenbauers and Maradonas but Messi is just on a different level.

People who've never played soccer just have no idea how difficult it is to do things Messi does with no one around you, much less against the best defenders in the world. He's so ridiculous that when he is on, it almost looks like his opponents are just actors there to pretend like their job is to stop him.

For all the complaints about fútbol being boring, lots of people outside the US see football as boring because they stop and start play constantly, and roughly 90% of the official time of the game is between snaps- as in deadball time.

Not liking x or y sport often comes down to lack of familiarity or appreciation for the majority- that's why most sports fans have a modicum of interest in the major sports across the board. Of course, there will always be a segment of general sports fans that don't care for a particular sport, but there's a reason why these sports in general gain a following and have an value from an entertainment perspective.

I ****ing love football.

I would love it so much more if it was not primarily a vehicle for ad revenue.

So do I, it's just that no sport is above criticism- justified or stupid the reason may be.

EDIT: didn't notice that, although they gave out embed code for this, and the clip window shows up, La Liga blocks embed playback. Go here for the clip on youtube

Don't worry, soon enough we can Americanize soccer and put in TV timeouts every 10 minutes. Or run side-by-side ads like they do in auto racing.

Get this through your skull. Throwing touchdowns is exponentially easier than scoring goals.
