Manning "off the grid"

NFL.Com
Quote:
Palmer: Manning's teammates know little about his injury
Peyton Manning is out of the lineup and off the grid for the Denver Broncos.

NFL Media's James Palmer reported on NFL Network's TNF Gameday that Manning, who has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup against the Bears, hasn't attended any practices or meetings this week and hasn't had a single conversation about Sunday's game plan with Brock Osweiler, the fourth-year quarterback set to make his first career start.

Palmer has spoken to more than two dozen Broncos players. Each one has said they've heard of no timetable for a potential Manning return. Teammates don't even know the specifics of Manning's injury issues, though several assumed the foot is the primary concern. He underwent an MRI on his rib cage Monday, but Broncos coach Gary Kubiak told Palmer the results were negative.

According to Palmer, Broncos coach Gary Kubiak prefers Manning puts his full focus on treatment and getting healthy. Denver officials haven't decided if Manning will make the trip to Chicago this weekend.

On the Monday, Kubiak and Manning will sit down and determine whether he is healthy enough to play against Tom Brady and the undefeated New England Patriots on Nov. 29.

I get you, but if your new guy doesn't produce that philosophy will no longer exist. The mindset will probably be "Why weren't we grooming the next franchise QB while we all knew Manning was on the slide?"

Oh, that will exist no matter what... hell, some say that now about Brock. A fans 20/20 hindsight is incredible.

True, but Elway KNOWS the importance of having one so he'll go out and get the best one available. Let's say it's Drew Brees...He's younger than Manning and could run that offense till a young QB was ready.

Although many people here hate this, the Broncos are a well-run organization.

Even if/when Brock sucks, they will do what it takes to get another guy with actual potential.

Kubiak is exactly what his record suggests -- an average NFL coach. Average is NOT bad -- he's not Herm Ewards or Rich Kotite, but he's no Bill Belichick or even Andy Reid, either.

Yep. No argument here. In fact, I bet they already have a plan C.

Brees makes them 3 years younger at the position... crazy. I don't see that happening though. Kirk Cousins is an interesting option to me. WAS can't get out from under RGIII's contract too easily.

IIRC, Cousins is a FA... I haven't paid attention to their games, but he's looked decent from what I can tell. Could certainly do worse.

That's a possibility but I think if Elway sees a QB he likes in the draft, he'll first try and draft that QB rather than bring in a FA like Brees. Manning was a very special opportunity and Manning would have never been available had he not had the neck injury. The Broncos need to first find out if Brock is the guy, then they can institute a plan for either acquiring another QB or moving forward with Brock.

What needs to happen is Crock has a "Wobble Launcher" (also know as "Huard") last half of the season in which he does well enough for Denver to commit, but fails miserably when teams figure him out and game plan accordingly.

He hasn't been around long enough to lay claim to being those guys... but, he's 9 games into his second HC stint. It will say a lot about how they manage this and move forward. Time will tell and again, many questioned the hiring, but Elway is very familiar with this guy and he was hired for 'beyond Manning'. Elway didn't want to wait, he really wanted to have Kubiak run the team and knowing that this was likely it for Manning, they went for it.

Yeah, Brock has a 2 month audition at this point. Can things improve and can he play well enough to maintain their #3 seed and do something in the playoffs? If so, he earns his next contract.

If not, well, we move on... draft, free agency - whatever.

How many QBs in the league are you afraid of? I'm guessing very few, and the ones that you are afraid of will be in the HOF. Getting HOF production from the QB spot is extremely rare. Elway is not a magician and he's not going to find one overnight, unless somehow he acquires Drew Brees.

The days of us facing a QB in Denver who throws for 5,000 yards and 50 TDs in a season are over. Denver had some magical regular seasons under Manning and that's over. Welcome back to the pack, Denver.
