As did I. We got a lot of them here as they're in St. Louis' division.

At least the highlight reel had HIGHLIGHTS. And not padded, or slo-mo, or repeated from a different angle, highlights. Snap boom, snap boom. Nice run, nice throw, nice scramble.

Like I said, Cassel did maybe three of those plays in his whole career, and has a shit ton more ****ups.

You want to show clips of AS hurting his team, I'll be glad to look. But like I said, I'm talking about active detriment, not some vague sense of lack of production, or leaning on the running game and D. Also, be sure to annotate the time and place of occurrence, and don't try to pass off some shitty play from years ago as if it happened yesterday. Feel free to include any shitty play you wish from any point in his career, so long as time and place is noted.

So that's the new standard now? You don't have to be great, just don't be historically bad? Is that how low Matt Cassel has sunken this fan base?

I have full faith as I stand here right now AS will deliver.
Look it up, that's been my standard for closing in on 15 years online, and longer than that IRL.

The gunslinger can be fun, an Aaron Rodgers can be REALLY fun, but its not the only way to skin a cat [feel free to make your case for Aikman the gunslinger], especially if the rest of the team is sound.

And the Cassel comparisons are directed at the Cassel 2.0 crowd. It's not my gold, silver, bronze or pot metal standard.

Statistically, yes he compares to Cassel. Now, that doesn't mean i think he PLAYS like Cassel. Obviously not, and I doubt you would find a single reputable poster that would say that he plays like Cassel.

But that doesn't make him the answer either.

You see, that's the reason why so many wanted Geno. Sitting a young talented QB behind a game manager like Alex, makes sense. I suppose that's why people are excited about Bray. He has a chance to develop.

But in all of this Me VS You or, Patt's favorite, Alex vs Geno, the objective is lost.

And that objective is to find and develop a true Franchise QB so we can move away from these game manager brand QB's.

...you know....kinda like what SF did when they replaced Alex Smith.

My favorite is actually rational CP posters vs unrepentant Geno nuts.

Those statistics came in two scenarios, first when the whole team was shit, second when he had a stout D and running game to rely on. Cassel's stats came under the scenario that he sucks and CAN'T produce.

Is it possible that AS can't produce even with a solid team around him? Yes. Is it certain or has it been a running theme dogging him? No.

Also, 2011 and the 2012, up to his concussion, strongly suggested that he could produce when called upon.

Do you accept even the possibility of a

smart
accurate
mobile
clutch

game manager?

Or at least the difference between that and 'try not to **** up' game manager.

I'm not looking for a 'mediocre' QB. I'm looking for a guy who's smart and poised and who recognizes when the running game has the hot hand, and when the clock needs run, when the D need a breather. Who doesn't hurt the team with unnecessary gambles. Who doesn't lose poise. Who's capable of the clutch score when needed.

Again, I freely invite people to assemble specific footage establishing that AS can never be that guy.

But

'He's mediocre'
or
'You're going to be bitterly disappointed'

is no argument at all.

Again, Favre and Rodgers are awesome. They also come along once in a generation.

Give me a guy with the attributes I've cited, and put a competent team around him, and I'll watch rapt.

Would Matt Cassel in 2010 fit that description? He was iffy on 'accurate', but the rest sounds similar. And yes I include "clutch" since they were 4-2 in games decided by a TD or less.

30 years of ineptitude at the QB position has really affected your expectations.

Once Smith faces adversity, and his abilities are questioned, his confidence will sink, and you'll want him gone.
