Terminator Genisys

I dunno... It's looking kinda 'meh' maybe?
They continue to **** with the timeline which is confusing. So what I see in this trailer is this is the second time they send the same dude back to keep Sarah Connor alive? Wait, wut?
Apparently terminators age as well? Weird but whatever.
Here's the trailer. I didn't see it posted anywhere but the search function is fubar.

Saw it in IMAX and enjoyed it. Wasn't as bad as expected. Time travel is no less convoluted than any other film, acting was decent, one liners and homage to original were nice touches, FX were well done. Girl is wholesomely cute (deceptively nice rack, 28 playing a 20 year old). Not sure what people were expecting; its "Terminator 4", not Shakespeare.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I really enjoyed this movie. I don't know what the haters were expecting.

Saw it, enjoyed it, but overall pretty meh.

I thought the setup was pretty cool, but by the end it sort of ran out of steam.

The timeline is so convoluted now, my brain is spinning trying to make sense of it all.

I think I would have liked it better if I had never seen a Terminator movie before.

I agree that the concept is interesting, but they couldn't find a way to make the script tighter and pull it off without leaving a sloppy mess in its wake.

As it stands now, you could have a veritable modified Groundhog Day situation. They could retool the events of any of the previous movies over and over.

The problem is introducing the multiverse concept when you have 2 competing forces with the ability to alter the past. If there's no longer a linear timeline, then there's no way there can be a final resolution.

It's like playing checkers, except that when a piece is jumped it isn't removed from the board. It's just placed at the back of the board away from the immediate action.

In fact, Skynet is actually pretty stupid. Why waste your time battling over winning this specific timeline? There are obviously timelines Skynet goes live, John Connor isn't able to defeat Skynet , and the resistance dies.

Then, the question is, since Skynet is a singular entity, what the hell is it going to do with all that free time now ?

Can of worms.

Honestly, the R rating being set at 17 is dumb too. I think 15 is a better age restriction- even though that's completely arbitrary also.

Face facts, in an Internet world, major motion pictures are tame by comparison to everything else easily available to kids. You only have maybe 2-3 films that have gratuitous sex or violence, and a couple more that actually touch on adult topics that I can see wanting to put some advisory notice about the film so people aren't going in with their kids and blindsided with an uncomfortably sensitive scene.
It reminds me of another Arnold film that when it was released became a news story about whether it should have been rated NC-17, Total Recall.

No joke, I hardly think that film calls for it.

On the other hand, take the movie August, Osage County.
It's not violent and there's no graphic nudity. But, if you are at all familiar with the plot and topics of discussion, it's definitely not a film that you want to take the family to go see, or even really have a young teenager going to if you're their parent. However, from most of the trailers for the movie, it's not apparent the mature discussion that goes on throughout the movie.

Whats funny is, I thought Fury Road was less violent that this film and it was rated R. Its language was definitely tamer than this film.

The MPAA is dumb or its bought out by the big studios who want to keep the more marketable PG-13 rating.

They had adult women being milked (yes, a scene were women were lactating into tubes to be collected for later?) and that probably got the R.

Sad, but true...

Skynet is the Dr WHO no one likes.

Why? How? When?

No one cares because the rest of a great action movie was spoiled with some horrid storytelling.

[QUICK ASIDE] The people who even know who John Connor is are in the 30-50 age range. They were Parents of or children of the Cold War.

That's why this series had some bite to it.

"John Conner" is a ****ing adjective to some local preppers here. "I'm ready, this thing is full on 'John Connor...I'm telling you..."[/ASIDE]

I liked the movie. Some parts I really loved, others held the film back.

The recreation of scenes from the original Terminator were Goddamn near flawless. I had just watched the original the night before seeing this, and it was really impressive how it was done.

That being said, Jai Courtney's complete and utter failure to match Michael Biehn's performance as Kyle Reese was glaringly apparent having just watched the original. Biehn is on edge, almost frantic when he demands information from the officer about the date, screaming at the officer "WHAT YEAR!?"

Jai Courtney looked to be almost comatose delivering that line. Casually asking what day it was, and when told, calmly asked what year.

Jai Courtney's Kyle Reese held the film back. He is in no way portraying the character that Michael Biehn brought to life in the original. Had THAT Kyle Reese character been in this film, it would have been spectacular. Courtney comes off as wooden, and completely ****ing generic in almost every single possible way. It was a travesty that he was cast as such an important, iconic character in the franchise.

Loved the CGI 1984 T-800. Looked amazing. Also really dug the "Old. Not Obsolete." line in the film.

I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I thought I would, and it was far more entertaining for me than the abortion that T3 was, and I don't even acknowledge the existence of Salvation it was so ****ing bad.

Terminator
T2: Judgment Day
Terminator: Genisys

Ill buy it on Blu Ray.

It's the same shit that was said about Jurassic World and Fast and Furious 7. What were you expecting? They are what they are. You should know what to expect when entering the movie.

Movies like these are not entirely made for the US box office. The international market is where they make their money.

Terminator is coming up on $255 million. There will be a sequel.

I accept it for what it is. It's no skin off my back if they want to keep making more sequels. Maybe somebody comes along with a tremendous story and they make a fantastic movie.

It is what it is- an action popcorn summer blockbuster.

The only thing I can't slide is how Jai Courtney wasn't immediately replaced. They're watching the dailies. That was an epically bad casting for Reese. One of the main 4 characters, and they hire and keep a guy who couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

So how will they advance the story? Seemed like it was pretty cleanly wrapped up there at the end. I guess they can hump the leg of the time travel plotline some more?

And I thought the movie was good, not great. Nice tip of the cap throughout the movie to the previous installments, and Emilia Clarke is just so freaking hot. It was a good movie to turn your brain off to and enjoy.
