Chiefs’ Eric Fisher had shoulder, hernia surgeries

Quote:
The first overall pick in last year’s NFL draft is recovering from two different offseason surgeries.

Chiefs offensive tackle Eric Fisher had a procedure on his shoulder and a procedure to repair a hernia, coach Andy Reid confirmed today at his press conference at the start of Kansas City’s offseason program.

Fisher started 13 games as a rookie but was disappointing as the Chiefs’ right tackle. Nonetheless, Reid has said he expects Fisher to be the starting left tackle this year, replacing the departed Branden Albert.

If Fisher is healthy and looks as good as the Chiefs thought he would be when they drafted him last year, the Chiefs have their franchise left tackle in place for years to come. If Fisher continues to struggle, questions will be raised about whether the Chiefs made a mistake when they made him the top pick in the draft.

Hernia surgery is nothing.

A close friend had it just over a year ago, and 6 weeks before he hiked the entire Appalachian Trail.

I hope this article shuts up all the " he will put on some pounds of muscle and get stronger this off season"
That is not happening this year folks. To be completely recovered is the goal now so put the he will get stronger this off season to bed true fans.

Even if he had the surgery the day after the Indy loss, he still isn't going to have much time to truly start lifting, just being healed enough to even get back in the weight room is going to take a while.

Upon reading the quote that said "he's now put on 5 pounds of good weight" my first thought was "that's all?"... yeah, his training has been severely hampered this offseason.

I think its safe to say we can forget about a big strength difference, he'll have to improve due to natural quickness combined with a better understanding of the game/technique this year.

Feets don't fail him now...

Repaired hernias are usually stronger than uninjured hernias. The Marlex mesh is stronger than the body's wall.

So you know what kind of shoulder surgery it was and know the recovery time? If he's already put on 5 pounds of "good" weight, I'd say it is going pretty well.

Of course I don't know the exact surgery, but any op on a pro athletes shoulder should be considered serious.

If the quote about "5 pounds" is true, I'd be shocked... even if true, he better keep on lifting and slamming those protein shakes.

He was getting manhandled in camp by almost everyone. Did the guy get hurt before camp?

If he did, they should have just did the surgery early last year and put him on pup IMO.

This!! Can't believe so many haters expected him to be a stud straight outta college. How many o linemen are pro bowlers tere first year? I'm not an NFL historian but I'd bet the nbera are few and far between. Jesus give the guy a little time. I saw improvement as the season went on. Who knows what the future holds for him but to label him a bust after his rookie season is ridiculous!! Number 1 pick or not.

Too early to say bust, but I think lowering expectations to salvageable/serviceable is in line with the most likely of outcomes.

It was one of the worst years to have the #1 overall pick. I dont think hed be in the top 5 discussion if he was in this years draft class. Lack of top tier position players last year pushed guys like Fisher up draft boards.
