My main memory of him is missing a clear sack opportunity and 1 second later the QB he missed throwing a 50 yard bomb.. might have been against the Texans?

Every team has marginal players. They can't all be starters. RNR was quality depth. But he wasn't high enough quality that he couldn't be improved upon. We saw him fill in and do a respectable job, so yeah, people are going to be surprised to see him cut prior to training camp before he had a chance to compete for his job. But, if we've improved the defensive line talent enough that there isn't room enough for a guy like Rochez, then that's a good thing for the Chiefs. Past regimes might have been content to keep a guy like RNR on the roster. I like having a GM that is constantly looking for ways to improve every position on the roster. That's how you build a championship caliber team.

I'll admit this cut took me by surprise a little bit. Veach and Reid must feel they have some depth signed for a lot less than $1.9M. Either that, or this is a rebuilding year and we need to shed some cash to sign some of our up and coming studs to long term deals.
