Is Billick a Reid hater?
https://youtu.be/GGUTOLW6uI8
I found his take on this very interesting. He brings up Reid's failures in Philly, the fact that some QB needy teams passed up on Mahomes, and makes a ridiculous comment about getting your QB in year 1 vs. year 5. Sounds like a guy who is very bitter about Reid's success. |

I'm not Reid's biggest fan, but i'll take him over the opinion of a former coach who was billed as an offensive guru yet never could do shit on offense with his team.

He's a loser. He's like Kubiak who had an all time great defense have one dominating year get it done for him. He had Marvin Lewis and Ray Lewis. Kubiak had Wade and Miller.
Just lucky in the right place at the right time.

Billick's Ravens signed Elvis Grbac as a free agent.
All QB credibility is immediately dismissed. |

I will say Reid's "QB Whisperer" tag is a bit played up because I don't think he's really truly developed any successful QB from the ground up outside of McNabb. Of course the flip side of that is he coached up McNabb so he didn't have to develop anyone else for the longest time. So hopefully he is able to do the same with Mahomes. But, and just making a guess here, I think you read stuff like how Dorsey was wowed by Russel Wilson's interview, or how Reid liked Carr but elected to go with a more veteran, sure thing guy in trading for Smith to get his program going the right way in year 1, and they probably vowed to themselves that if they ever ran into another QB that had the tools and that they believed in like that, they weren't going to pass it up. That's probably what this came down to. With the decision to trade for Smith, I think it essentially turned into (and probably not by design, as Reid probably thought he could make Alex into a better player than he has been) a four year plan to stabilize and establish a winning culture here, and now starting with this move, you are looking to push your existing guy to take his game up a level and win you a ring, or otherwise the new guy is supposed to come in and take you to that next level. Either way, all you here out of Reid in every interview now is that it's "time to go get that ring" so you know the sense of urgency has arrived if it wasn't there already... |

I listen to that and to me it sounds like Billick just makes decisions based on whether he will keep his job or not. Reid and Dorsey draft based on keeping improving the team long term. To me this is just like the play not to lose mentality, it just doesn't work. We have a coach and GM that aren't worried about job security so they focus on improving the team long term. Billick doesn't know what that feels like apparently.

He can critique on Andy Reid if he wants to, because he's a more accomplished coach than Reid. |

It still is baffling how we got a Kerry Collins vs Trent Dilfer Superbowl in our lifetimes...
