Yea thats whats being missed in all of this. For some reoson nobody is calling the Rams defense trash.

It really comes down to the Rams making one more stop than KC. Scandrick holds on to that INT and its game.

Mahomes makes a few better decisions, etc.....

You can't turn it over 5 times on the road.

The Chiefs had 5 turnovers and 130 yards worth of penalties and lost by 3 on the road. GTFO with the "Chiefs can't win in December" because of the defense. Clean up that and you win by 10 last night.
Quoted again for truth.

This game gave me confidence we win out.

The Chiefs shut down the most productive RB in football. They got 6 stops and a defensive score. The dared Goff to beat them and he did; it was the only choice they had and Goff played a damn fine game.

Bottom line was that their pass rush was more consistently disruptive than ours. Our rush got to Goff more but there were also a lot of plays where Goff had a TON of time to survey the field. By the 4th quarter, the 4-man rushes were simply not accomplishing anything and the Rams were putting too many in the pattern to send 5.

The Rams, OTOH, didn't bring Mahomes down quite as often but they were CONSTANT. They were pushing that pocket in 4 of 5 times it felt like.

I'm damn disappointing in Speaks. Unless it turns out that he just didn't get many snaps, I cannot for the life of me think of a single thing he did yesterday. I'm also frustrated with Bob for not getting K-Pass in there more. The front 4 needed a blow in the worst way and when Speaks was invisible and K-Pass benched, they had nothing left to offer in the 4th and that was the major difference.

But really, I think Sutton did a good job yesterday outside of the pass rush rotation. I can't throw away credit for a good, aggressive gameplan that was showing multiple looks (some really interesting stunts, especially later) because he didn't get K-Pass a dozen more snaps.

Yesterday was encouraging and the defense, as they have done many times this season, showed some things. They took some steps forward. They faced an incredibly difficult task and after some early jitters, really stood tall for significant portions of that game. They weren't perfect because this defense isn't good, but it's not a disaster either. It's fine and that's how it played yesterday.

But on the road against a SB contender, it's just ****ing hard to win when the other QB is feeling it. And Goff was; I can only think of 2 simple misses from him yesterday and he was smart with the ball. The Chiefs had the more exciting playmaker and the Rams had the more accurate, polished passer yesterday and that's not the end of the world.

Look at it this way - there are 6 contenders.

Of those 6 contenders, who has a better road win than our second best road win? Shit, who has a better road game than our 2 best road losses?

Of the Saints, Rams, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Chargers, we're the only team to have beaten any of those other teams on the road and we've done it TWICE. We've also played 2 of the others to a standstill on the road. That's just impressive as hell.

So you're saying the Chiefs needed Alex Smith to win the game?

I keed.

But seriously, I've lost track of the weekly snap counts -- does KPass even play anymore? I don't ever notice him.

This will sound bad, but sometimes we need Pat to be a little Alexian. Once you've been just torching all game, take the underneath throw. Give yourself an easy 2nd and 2. Then you can take your shot if you want.

Kpass doesn't play. I don't know why, he just doesn't get on the field. Maybe that ankle injury from earlier in the year is still bothering him, I don't know.

Idk but it’s very depressing to have a 2nd rd pick not Even play. Veach has not been high on him this year.

Maybe that was a Dorsey pick Veach didn’t agree with?

He didn't play one snap last night.

Either he's hurt or they don't really like him that well.

It's just an impossible line for a 23 yr old quarterback to walk.

Alex loses that game 34-17. The Chiefs NEEDED Mahomes to be Mahomes for the first 57 minutes of that game. The pick 6 and the first strip sack were both really bad, I'll grant you, but being 'Alexian' wouldn't have avoided those; they were just mistakes that everyone makes.

Ask yourself this - how many QBs presently in the league would've won that game for the Chiefs? 1? 3? I won't really listen to any argument past that.

Brees and Rodgers are the two guys who MAYBE win that ballgame. Neither of them attempt that last pass (Rodgers may have attempted the pick before it; Mahomes got hit and it fluttered - happens to Rodgers as well). Rodgers takes the strips/sacks as well, IMO. Brady probably doesn't, but Brady also doesn't hit some of those TD tosses that Mahomes hit.

People are bagging Mahomes for not being perfect but even the greatest QBs in NFL history are rarely perfect. Maybe Brees wins that game, but Brees also doesn't have the mobility to have saved some of the plays Mahomes saved.

What people are demanding is that a 23 year old Mahomes be HoF caliber RIGHT NOW. That he be the best version of himself right this very instant. Holy shit, folks - lets get ahold of ourselves.

Mahomes wasn't great yesterday but there's also not a quarterback in football I'd have rather had than him in that game. What you'd have needed was some super-hybrid of Rodgers mobility, Brady's internal clock and Brees's preternatural accuracy. You'd have needed some insane super-quarterback because the degree of difficulty for Mahomes last night was immense.

Or you have the 23 yr old who was a Scandrick pick away from winning it on his own.

I said it in another thread but I cannot for the life of me figure out who to be upset with right now. I think the D played admirably. I think Mahomes played extremely well. I think the 'Andy's clock management' crowd is just getting riled up for no reason (you can't slow-play when you're leading; if you can take the lead, take it. If you're tied, go ahead and slow-play).

It was a road loss in a packed 100,000 seat stadium to a SB team with a hot QB of their own. The was an historic final score, but in the end it was a 3 point loss that is a likely win if Mahomes isn't getting hit as he throws on the ball to Conley. I just....whatever. I can't be upset about that.

That's pretty inexcusable if he's healthy. The Rams weren't doing anything terribly clever up front and I've not seen a pass-rush that tired in a loooong time. Their get-off in the 4th quarter was noticeably diminished. Get Speaks, Jenkins and K-Pass in there for a series just to give them a chance to reload.

That's the one thing I'll really criticize Sutton for - they needed to find a way to get their front 4 a break and seemed to just lose the forest for the trees there.

Yeah, I right there.

Get back healthy, get Morse and LDT back, hope Watkins heals up and Berry is whatever and go from there. They've gotten beat on the road in primetime 2 times by a FG. They're literally never out of a game with this offense and the D is what a D needs to be in todays NFL.

I'll take my chances.

I don't think Morse plays for the Chiefs again. What are the odds of the guy being in the concussion protocol for 5 weeks suddenly getting cleared?

This isn't an Andy issue; the Chiefs medical staff isn't holding him back to get him healthy. He's not clearing baseline tests right now for an issue that is a medical mystery apart from the fact that we know multiple occurrences exponentially increase the likelihood of another one and the duration of their impact.

I'm starting to get worried that Morse may never play again. Jahvid Best just never got cleared and he's a track coach somewhere now. Morse could end up on Mizzou's sideline next season at this point...

It's possible. I figure with 2 weeks here, if he's not cleared after that, he's done. But I thought I read somewhere he was doing better? Maybe not?

Anyway, we shall see.

I was happy with the front 7 last night though. They need another DL that can really rush the passer. Also, holy shit Aaron Donald might be the best DT I've ever seen. Like, is he better than Reggie White?

You just said everything I was going to.
