The Houston thread seems dedicated just to Houston, and there's other things happening so...

Reports are that the Lions will not tag Suh, who would have some kind of crazy cap number -- $26+ million. Figure the teams with massive amounts of cap room, and who need to make the 89% spend floor, will be in on the action, including the Raiders.

Another one there, as Peter King noted, is the Colts. They have cap space, and as the Patriots keep proving, they need to improve their run defense and overall toughness if they're going to take the next step.

Latest reports is that if the Patriots tag anyone, it will be the kicker, Gostkowski, and not Safety Devin McCourty. In a year where both free agent safeties and potential draft picks at the position are weak, it will likely trigger a bidding war.

Last, latest from Denver is that the Broncos will tag Demaryius Thomas (not really new news here).

Tag deadline is 4:00 p.m. today.

Interesting point on Suh -- he was one of the last to get a big rookie contract under the old system. Then the Lions kept restructuring him, with the result that tagging him now would give him a $26+MM cap number.

If they had never restructured his rookie deal to kick the can down the road in prior years, his current year tag number would be a huge but potentially not prohibitive $18MM.

Patriots tag Kicker Stephen Gostkowski. Clears the way for Safety Devin McCourty to reach free agency unless he agrees to terms before the 10th. He would easily be the best safety available, and there is a weak draft class at the position, so he should find a strong market for his services.

In all seriousness, if I were the Colts, I would be focusing strongly on Suh and McCourty.
