Mock Offseason #2

Chiefs 2015

Resign: Houston, Hudson, Parker, Mauga, Harris

Cut: Fasano, Daniel, Avery, Jenkins, Avant, several other minor players

Restructure/Extend: Hali, Smith, Bowe

FreeAgent Pickups: WR Cobb, OG Orlando Franklin

Notes: Berry out, DJ comes back

2015 NFL DRAFT!!!

RD 1: WR Dorial Green-Beckham (MU) - 6'5, 237lb

Big time talent at WR, potential Calvin Johnson upside! Consider this, with "all his off field issues", and not playing at all last season, and even being labeled "raw" by some scouts he's still being mocked in the first between pick #18-32 by major pundits. That's in a year when Gordon and Rice's antics brought the magnifying glass to these very specific off field issues. Personally, I think the young man made some young man mistakes and he'd be a steal at #18. That is if SF doesn't snag him ahead of us.

RD 2: OT Ogbuehi (A&M) - 6'5, 305lb

Graded as a first rounder and starting caliber RT, but tore his ACL. Take a look at his ESPN draft profile:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/38022

RD 3: OG Matius (FST) - 6'6 325lb

Stalwart Gaurd. "When I watched FST tape to study Erving, I immediately noticed Matius outperforming him. You could start Matias at LG on Day one and if he performs better than the Chiefs incumbent LT Eric Fisher then move him over." - Laddie Morse, Arrowhead Addict

3B: ILB Anthony (CU) - 6'2, 245lb

"When asked to go downhill there aren’t many better at doing it than Anthony. He is able to fill running lanes and is a good enough interior pass rusher to warrant an immediate look... If he does end up getting pushed down boards far enough, someone is going to get an outstanding downhill defender who can immediately contribute as a two down starter." -Profootballspot.com

RD 4: S Eric Rowe (UT) - 6'1, 202 lbs

Rowe can play CB or S and fits the size preferences that Dorsey and Sutton look for in our secondary. He brings added depth to our secondary when Parker may or may not be back this year, and Smith and Abdullah's contracts are up next year.

RD 5: CB Josh Shaw (USC) - 6'1, 205 lbs

Dropped his draft stock due to immaturity. I'm for picking him up as a bargain in the 5th. (See Eric Rowe's description above)

5B: WR Austin Hill (AZ) - 6'2, 210

Not a burner or home run hitter but able to get separation, run quality routes, and make the catch consistently. Dropped in draft due to ACL injury in 2013. Fits the frame Dorsey and Reid are known to look for in WRs/DBs. Check out his ESPN Scouting profile:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/36666

5C: OT Jamil Douglas (AST) - 6'4, 305lbs

Chiefs met with him during combine interviews. "Douglas is legendary in ASU's weight room, with a power clean of 385 pounds, a bench press of 430 and a squat of 565. He has gained 40 pounds since arriving at ASU, but his body-fat percentage is in the low teens. In addition, Douglas runs the 40 in under 5.0 seconds."

RD 6: TE Jean Sifrin (UMA) 6'6, 250lb

Dropped in draft because 27 yrs old. Raw basketball player that has played very little football. Took time off to provide for young son and wife. 42 catches, 642 yards & 6 TDS. Huge catching radius. Too fast for linebackers and too big for CBs, blocks them out with his body. Quality red zone target.

RD 7: OLB Davis Tull (UTC) - 6'4, 245lb

Would be great on special teams, and as added depth. Three-time Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. 37 career sacks (fourth all-time in FCS), 60 tackles for loss and 10 forced fumbles. "Davis Tull is a guy who you love everything he has. He's got great energy and great explosion, and there are times when it looks like he is just fired out of the blocks. He is a relentless player with great productivity" - Kiper

7b: DT Deon Simon (NW) - 6'4, 325lb

Small School guy that is drawing some comparisons to Dontarie Poe bc he reportedly put up 41 reps at 225lb on bench recently in prep for combine (Poe put up 44 reps). Great run stopper with excellent strength. Would fit as our rotational NT to spell Poe. Sliding in draft bc he missed 5 games due to MCL tear. Read more on him here:

http://www.steelersdepot.com/2015/02...o-dontari-poe/

The goal was to overhaul our offensive line, add some weapons for A Smith, and get some quality depth on the defensive side.

Hopefully Fisher comes in healthier than ever before and benefits from having a veteran in Orlando Franklin next to him. Ogbuehi and probably Matius make the starting lineup, and we get some quality depth out of Douglas. This OL is pretty damn young, but affordable, and could gel together for years to come.

DGB brings tremendous upside at WR, and will hopefully develop into our #1 in a year or two. Cobb is perfect for us if we can convince him to come play with A Smith, who I think would benefit most from a YAC slot guy that doesn't need deep down field passes to put up yards. Bowe becomes our #2 possession receiver type but is hopefully overtaken by DGB by the end of the season and possible cut before 2016. HIll adds quality depth as a WR that fits the WCO and Sifrin provides a raw yet useful red-zone target.

Simon, Anthony and Tull are quality front 7 depth that all have run stopping abilities. Row and Shaw are big enough DBs to make tackles, one of them could probably end up breaking our rotation in the secondary and seeing some playing time.

These are two of my favorite guys in the draft. Matias is my favorite guard prospect in years. I've been watching him since he was a freshman. He can be a very good blocker in a man/inline scheme, but is a truly elite prospect in a zone blocking scheme. He is the quickest OL I have ever seen off the snap. He has a rare ability to pull and lead and maintain downfield, not only reasonably keeping up with the ballcarrier but then finding people to block. I think he's a first round talent.

I mostly agree with what the reviewer said about Anthony but I think he sells his coverage ability short. He is my third favorite ILB behind McKinney (Miss St) and Dawson (TCU).

Ogbuehi I think is overrated. I'm not a fan of his.

I don't really get why Hill is rated as low as he is. I liked him back when Matt Scott was still their QB. He got fewer looks this year but he always seems open. He makes plays on the outside and in the slot. Seemed almost like either Solomon or RichRod didn't like him.

Shaw I really like, too, especially if you have deep help. He completely owned Davante Adams last year.

Eric Rowe I haven't seen much of, but he flashed some really good cover skills against USC this year.

JMObservations.

Thank you for the feedback!

Do you feel Matius will be picked in the first round? or that he is a first round talent? I'm hoping Matius and Anthony drop to the third bc G and ILB tend not to be taken early in the draft.

Ogbuehi might not be the best in the draft, but I think he might be the best available in the second round.

The times I've seen Matias, he shows traits better than he shows functionary purpose. He seems to be one of those guys that has the athleticism but just doesn't put it to the best use on the field. I'm also apprehensive that some of his positive production was a result of having Cam Erving next to him at either LT or C.

There were times during FSU games that he looked like the worst of their offensive lineman this past season.

Do you feel he would provide an upgrade at G for our Chiefs? In KC he'd have Hudson to play next to.

Honestly CP I haven't gotten through every team's needs in the draft, so it would be hard for me to say who might be looking for a guard in the first round. I definitely think he has the talent to justify the selection. Maybe Denver, but they are rebuilding their DL going to a 3-4. Could be Cincinnati or New England, but they could both use DL help as well. Hard for me to say.

Welp, that free agency period is completely unrealistic . You don't even bother attempting to explain how all that is possible.

Hmm I can't honestly speak to how realistic grabbing those FA's would be, but I can make it work on fanspeak financially. We have 11 picks this year, I'd like us to work some cap magic and make a couple of impactful/splashy FA moves rather than a bunch of minor moves.

You and literally every other fan of every other fanbase.

We have the league's 2nd worst cap situation. Cobb's asking for 9/year, and Parker's asking for 6.

That's just the start of your problems, really, because you don't delineate Houston's or Hudson's deal either.

In addition to that, I'd argue that 5 of your first 6 picks are very unrealistic -- unlikely any of those players fall that far.

I enjoy your efforts, but you gotta keep these more realistic.

And if you're interested in realism, you should stay away from those self generated mock draft sites. They are rigged to make the drafts impossibly good so people will be excited about the results and other people will want to go to their site and do it.

Whoa! I'll be honest, I didn't realize Ron parker was looking for 6m a year. I thought more like 2m over 3 yrs. That's almost Eric Berry Money!? This makes the above scenario impossible.

Yes, that FA period is very unlikely. But this is a best case, pot-o-gold at the end of a rainbow, planets have aligned, lottery ticket type mock offseason scenario anyways. However, I wouldn't say signing Cobb and Franklin is completely financially impossible.

Above I franchised Houston for 12m and offered Tamba 6m/yr, Cobb 9.5m, Orlando & Hudson 6.5m. Fanspeak restructures A Smith and Bowe to 7.4m cap hit... lesser players like Mauga and the like I offered 1m-1.5m/yr.

Fanspeak isn't reality, but I think to say we're completely cap strapped is inaccurate. Yes, we're tight for money now but that's before we make cuts and try to restructure key contracts. Check out this article:

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl...le5389392.html

As for my draft. I agree with you that many of those players would have to fall a bit for us to pick them in the spots I mocked them, but most of the guys I chose have reasons to fall. Anyways see the above reference to rainbows, shiny dreams and the planets aligning. Again, not completely outside the realm of possibility tho.

With Sifrin, dont we already have a raw basketball player in Harris?

I'd rather do just about anything other than that, other than that its an interesting mix.

Even if the Chiefs go TE in the first or second, Fasano is a goner. If Harris is healthy, he'll be the third TE with a guy like Sifrin on the PS.
