Competition Committee to true NFL Fans: Get ****ed

From ProFootballTalk:

Quote:
Illegal contact penalties are way up this preseason, the result of the league office telling officials to monitor defensive backs closely and throw flags with impunity. That will continue in the regular season.

“We’re not going to change how we’re calling the games once the regular-season starts,’’ NFL V.P. of officiating Dean Blandino told The MMQB.

As a true fan of the NFL it does piss me off to see what's become of the league due to FF and as I've stated more than 1000 times it's one of the reasons I believe the NFL is not on the up and up and will do whatever possible in their power to help sway a game to get desired results.
Meh...Ive been playing for many years as well, and there's no way in hell Im taking responsibility for anything in this regard. I can play FF and complain about this because, in my league, we can adjust scoring to get enough excitement out of games that dont require 38+ points per side scored.

That said, Im also not a fan of 9-7 snooze fests either.

It was pretty glaring even in our game vs the Panthers, the amont of favoritism towards one team with a Top Jersey seller and one team without one. Cam and the Panthers were getting everything called for them, the Chiefs and Alex Smith didn't get the same benefit.

Late in the first half, they popped up a stat line on the penalties...

KC 6 for 74
CAR 1 for 5

Until the NFL decides to balance the game out for defenses and reduce the reliance on star QBs to ever win anything, I'm officially a casual fan at best.
Yep. Slowly the NBA has become my favorite league and this is from a guy that used to be addicted to the NFL. Anymore I just don't care...

If one could win based upon average field position, then I might have to rethink my opinion, but as long as the number of points determines a winner, I'll always defer to having a scoring offense not one whose primary responsibility is to 'not turn the ball over'.

I dont think the offenses in this league need any more help in that regard.

Maybe it's time for us to go out and get a Top Jersey seller then?

It seems to me this "new" NFL favors the idea of trying to get a young, high profile QB EVEN MORE.

Same, but with the NHL. The Avs got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs last year after being shit for years (sound familiar?). The difference is that I had a GREAT time watching hockey, where I always just feel irritated after an NFL season.

The NFL makes some curious business decisions. I am all for making the game safer, but stuff like this is just ruining the product. The league is at an all-time high for popularity, but I foresee a steep decrease occurring at some point within the next 10 years. It's just stupid.

And Goodell is a total douche. Fans hate him. Players hate him. Hell, even some owners don't like the guy. Why does he have his job, again?

So I guess the Cheating Donks get to run illegal pick plays the whole game. If the defensive backs actually manage to stop them-the refs will back them up with a flag. Pretty much how they did it last year when manning was handed all the passing records, except now the NFL is coming right our and saying it.

The refs will let the Oline hold to protect manning and the back end will make sure to flag plays that he doesn't manage to complete.

Sounds pretty fair. They are sending Manning off with a SB win and MVP no matter what the cost. Must be nice to be a donk fan and have it handed to you. Manning has been protected his whole career and I think that is the main reason most people hate him. He has pretty much ruined the legitimacy of the game.

Another angle to consider - the NFL is not so subtly trying to stop encouraging contact, hard hits and such, down the field. I understand this is an illegal contact issue and not an unnecessary roughness issue, but this is a way to start to "train" defenses on how to act and not to act. If receivers aren't being what the league now views as "illegally contacted" down the field because defenders have it in their mind that they can't touch them, then concussions from blasts over the middle will theoretically be down as well, and the NFL likes that because it won't have to fork out millions in settlements once again down the road.

Whenever changes like this take place for a product such as the NFL, money is 99.9% of the reason for it.

Probably one of the reasons why I like the NBA is that I don't really have a rooting interest in any team. I like watching all the teams so there is no heartbreak. I put most of this on the Chiefs and how the Hunt family runs the team. I have become so apathetic towards them I just don't care half the time.

Then throw in how the NFL has changed, all the damn commercials, all the stoppages of play and it has just become not a fun product to watch.
