Decent counter-argument.

Again, I think this is a component to the game that is tough to measure statistically. The stat guys, who are usually spot on, will say 3-5 games either way in terms of a manager's impact.

But damn if some guys don't have a knack for being more on the plus side.

There is a chemistry and feel to a clubhouse that those who have never played the game at a high level don't understand or cannot understand (whichever the case may be).

I've said it a few times, but it bears repeating: out of the 3 major sports (NFL, NBA, and MLB) the Major League Baseball manager is the least-relevant and least important out of all the head coach/manager guys in all of American professional sports, especially in the American League.

In baseball, you should care about the players and the GM. You should only really care about the manager if he's making everyone throw 110+ pitches and getting your pitchers hurt. If you think the GM is horrible, you may want to root for the manager to be fired only because that removes an excuse and the GM could be next.

Yep.. That's it... It's never his fault. He's not accountable for anything on this team. nothing.. He just makes the lineup, and might as well hit the showers because after that, nothing he does matters or can possibly make a difference in the outcome of a game. It's all on the players, you can't blame manager, GM or owner, they aren't accountable for anything - just cashing their paycheck. It's just almost every other team, and every successful team, that feel differently.

C'mon man, you know that's ridiculous.

If Ned doesn't own a huge part of this team's performance, then why have a manager? Let the players set the lineup.

I know this this isn't the military but you'll never hear the navy, or most captains, allow the blame for running the ship aground not START with the ship's captain. There may be others, but it always starts with the captain, he is relived of command, and THEN the investigation begins. Others may go down, the captain may get his ship back, but it's usually step one to releive him. It sort of sets a tone....

Perhaps the Royals could learn something from the Navy!
