Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I ****ing swear, the Chiefs have the most DELUSIONAL fans in the NFL. Since 2007, they've had a pair of 2-14 seasons, a pair of 4-12 seasons and haven't won a playoff game in 20 years, yet it's "Super Bowl or Bust" within four years.

This team was a laughing stock among players, agents and in league circles. Hunt hired the best possible head coaching candidate, the best possible personnel man and acquired the best possible QB to lead this team, yet butt****s like you clamor for Carson Palmer, Matt Flynn, Kevin Kolb and Geno Smith.

It's hilarious how seriously you take your dumb opinion.
Lol. The Chiefs did the absolute right thing if you think about it.

They knew how bad the qb market was. They grabbed who EVERYONE saw as the BEST free agent, or draft pick qb in Alex Smith.

They drafted the olinemen with the first pick that they thought best could transition to right tackle if needed, meanwhile keeping the Current better left tackle.

They added to the secondary that was beyond woeful last year, added pieces like a pass catching fullback which Andy Reid loves, as in the Leonard Weaver mold, they got a back up with big play potential in Knile Davis, and if he fixes his fumbling problems hes going to be a steal.

They added depth to the oline, drafted Nico Johnson to help with the lbs, picked up DeVito, and added a quality back up qb.

That is a lot of fixing in one offseason.

But people want instant results.......

I thought the Chiefs had an amazing offseason.

I don't get the notion that this front office won't "try" that route, they just didnt see any one they wanted to try with.

Which is fine. But if they miss, then hold it against them.

If taking a kicker in the first round had a strong correlation with consistent success and likelihood of winning the ultimate prize, and every NFL team did it except for the Chiefs did it, sure, it would make sense to "try" it.

What I want/hope for the Chiefs to "try" is not something drastic or unusual. It is a commonly accepted practice amongst every team and fanbase in the NFL ... except, apparently, for this one.

Alex Smith was the best available QB this offseason. That's great and all, but it ultimately doesn't mean jack unless he takes a big step forward. I HOPE he does... I just severely doubt it, and think if he doesn't, it was a bad move and overpay.

I find it hilarious how seriously you take this argument and how angry you're getting.

Rage on, cupcake.

wait, lets define miss.

to miss Alex Smith would have to crash and burn, and Eric Fisher would have to be a complete bust right?

Because if say Mike Glennon turns into a stud, then who cares.

Wait, Dane, did you just compare drafting a QB in the first round to drafting a K? I know it's with respect to trying something that the team hasn't done, but I mean... you did just make that comparison, right?

You all saw that, yes? I'm not just crazy?

I don't have that notion. I'm OK with them not "trying" it this season (even if I might disagree with it). I just think they paid too much for a stopgap guy, a price that could have a negative effect on being able to acquire a guy who CAN be more than a stopgap.

Typical Chiefs luck would be the guy they really want being likely to go ahead of them in the first round of the draft next year, and not being able to move up/getting outbid to move up because they don't have a second-round pick to use in the trade.

As for it being a miss... well, if any of the "top" QBs in this draft end up being a stud, yes, that's a miss. Heck, if any of them end up being better than Alex Smith, I'd consider that a miss.

Again, if we don't have said 2nd round pick, doesn't that mean its likely that Alex smith succeeded in this offense and it isn't a huge deal?

What gives you the notion tht they won't, when their history says different?

If the bar for it being that high a pick was 10 wins or a playoff win or something like that, sure it tells you Alex Smith succeeded. And it isn't a huge deal. 8 wins is not that big of a hurdle. There are a lot of combinations that could get KC there... tremendous luck, dominant running game, good defense, etc.

I think you guys understand why he was using the kicker in the first thing, it wasn't suggestive that we do it, it was an example

I don't have that notion. See my previous post.
Yes I misinterpreted your post, my bad. I'm on my phone so it's quick reading.

I think that in a system geared towards a running attack etc, it would be more likely.

But in Andy Reid's history of running an offense, which we've seen this preseason, I don't think anyone will be hiding behind a run game.

I'm not saying that.

People around the forum look at Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, and any other number of phenomenal teams who will continue to stay good for years to come solely because of the QBs they have in place. And how did they acquire those QBs? THAT'S what fans of this team want, because it's a consistent winning strategy. And we want to try doing that one of these days, because our favorite team hasn't put forth a real effort in doing that in 30 years.

Dane says, "That's a dumb reason to draft a QB. Just to try it. I mean, why don't we just draft a kicker because we haven't done it before??"

A bad example.

Since what I (and SNR and many others) want to see the Chiefs "try" is something that is common practice in the NFL.

It's like saying "I want to lose 20 pounds this year, so I'm going to try incorporating more cardio in my workout routine."

Dane's example is like saying "I want to lose 20 pounds this year, so I'm going to try eating more Twinkies."

Yeah, I agree.

But to "just try" on a guy they don't like, just to try, isn't something I want my team to do.

This regime has showed in the past that they'll "try" when they see a prospect the believe in.

As much as we all wanted it to be true, I think it's becoming more and more obvious that this years class was just as bad as everyone said it was, and as DJ stated, we potentially got the most talented guy available who needs as much work as any of the others

You shouldn't try doing cardio just to try it! The only gym in town has terrible cardio equipment! Just awful! You'll probably break something, wind up in the hospital, and then gain 20 MORE lbs from being in bed for weeks if you go on those treadmills!

You should definitely do weight-training to lose weight. It's more difficult for beginners, takes more effort, and you need to work hard at all kinds of different muscle groups and know when and how to target them, but it's better than whiffing on the treadmill!
