Prediction time: When will Mahomes take over for Smith?

The likely organizational plan is/was for Mahomes to take over next season and cut/trade Smith to recoup some needed draft picks and cap relief.

I think, Mahomes has not only shocked the Chiefs fans with his play but has also shocked the staff. Because of this, Veech made a crafted statement about how far ahead Smith was of Mahomes. They don't want to rock the boat yet, but they know as we know. If Mahomes didn't show that he is ready then the Chiefs don't make the comment, because it's not needed.

I think the time table will be moved up and Mahomes will take over for Smith during the season...for good.

The Chiefs weren't going to start Mahomes vs the Pats because of there defense nor do I think they start him early in the season. Unless this team is 7-3 or better going into the Bills game, that is when Mahomes is taking over. It is a home game against a bad team. Then they play the Jets at NY after. This will give him 2 games against bad teams before a home games against the Raiders, Dophins and at the Broncos. Of course, this could all change with injuries...and it might be another concussion/non concussion situation to start this and see how he handles it.

In before the "this post belongs in the other Mahomes threads"-----There can never be enough Mahomes threads on this forum.

Edit: Added Poll, hindsight 20/20 I should have combined injury or waiting to start until 2020 because that's essentially the same.

Chiefs have been in a playoff race every year since Reid has gotten here. Even when they went 9-7 and with no WR TD they missed the playoffs by one game.

I actually think Alex will come out swinging this season. He's watching his chances slowly (quickly?) come to an end and wonder why he played like a grandma for so long. There has to be some blood lust for Kaepernick revenge or he can just hang it up and open up a yogurt store.

This. His first real competition. Kap didn't push him. No one saw him as a threat until he played

Plus, they tend to get whacked with the bad luck stick almost every year.
I'm afraid that as usual, the Chiefs are just far too talented to NOT carry Smith along( like they have since day 1 )and win the division again.
I didn't say the Chiefs won't win the division. The OP just asked for a Prediction. I think 3-4 after 7 weeks. Lackluster first half against Donks. Mahomes starts 2nd half.

Chiefs win division.

I think they will sprinkle in some Pat Mahomes throughout the season to spice things up.

That's what the 49ers did with Joe Montana. Walsh would insert him for a series here and there just to get his feet wet and give him some confidence, which came from only putting him in situations where he could easily succeed. When the team was ahead, down in the red zone, etc.

I just don't see that happening. We aren't a team that gets big leads and keeps them typically, and that's when you'd usually want to throw him in the mix. If we get up by 3 scores then Andy and Alice will go into ultra-conservative turtle mode and we're coming back to a close-ish game.

You should have used "Special" as he has heard that his whole life... When you use new words he has to Google them and even the Urban dictionary doesn't make it clear enough to have him understand how P.C. you were trying to be. This was not the "unique" you were refering to;

Unique
Doing or believing in different things than most.

No way AR tolerates a 1-5 or 2-4 start especially if AS is the reason for the record. The poll here say's majority thinks 2018 or injury but AR won't tolerate AS if he is truly sucking more than usual thus taking away valuable learning reps from Mahomes continuing with AS which would not make sense. If we are 1-5 the season is over for the most part. Why not get PM going now as opposed to staying with AS which would kill morale for the team and fanbase while still losing?

With our cap issues, young guys needing contracts, and mahomes looking like he does, I don't see any way possible Smith is brought back in 2018. Even a deep playoff run probably wouldn't save him.

He would need to make AFCCG minimum. Probably SB to save his spot.

Unpopular opinion here, I know. However, who do you want behind center with the playoffs on the line? An unproven rookie with no experience whatsoever or a decent veteran with balls the size of Missouri?

Patrick will be our QB soon enough. Calm the **** down assholes. Alex is the best QB we've seen since Green. He's not flashy, he's not even all that great but he never ****s up. Almost all the important losses this team has had has been due to bad calls from the coaches, not Alex.
I know you hate to hear that. Whatever will you do if Patrick ends up being average or worse?
Better the demons you know than the ones you don't. Give the kid a chance to learn. Don't rush it. We've waited this long for a #1 QB. We can wait another season.
