Silva has been suspended for a year (from 1/31/15) and fined $330,000. He will be eligible to fight again on February 1st.

He's very lucky that the new Nevada punishments were not effective yet when he failed the test.

UFC 193 (Lawler vs Condit) will be in Melbourne. It'll be the first UFC championship fight in Australia.

edit: its also going to be in a stadium.

Etihad Stadium seats 56,000. The UFC is going to add floor seats in the hopes that they could sell 70,000. It'll be interesting to see if they can really pull it off.



I am assuming the thinking here is that they are going to have the event at a slightly-inconvenient time for Americans, so rather than rely on PPV, they will try for a big gate instead.

Rousey will fight Holly Holm on January 2nd instead of Miesha Tate.

That is stupid. Holm is undefeated I guess, but fought only twice in the UFC and did not look great in either fight. She will be an absurd underdog. Don't know yet if this is a free fight or PPV, I assume it'll be PPV with another real unannounced fight to support the card.

One of the few possible explanations is that the UFC was possibly thinking Holm was going to be better than this and were initially planning to build her up into a great-selling fight.

However, now they see Holm is not that good, and they want to cash in whatever they can get from uneducated fans who go "oh she's an undefeated boxer, maybe she can beat Rousey!" right now because Holm's going to lose to some random ranked girl any moment now.

We can now eliminate injury as a possibility, the UFC just decided to switch to Holm. Meisha Tate was already starting to train for Rousey and did not get a heads-up. She had no idea she wasn't getting the title shot until after it was announced.

According to the MMA media, the co-main for 195 will probably be Jedrzejczyk VS Gadelha.

That championship fight (which would also be a rematch) would be a lot closer and more interesting than this silly Rousey-Holm tomato can smashing farce.

In their defense there really isn't anyone left for Rousey to beat up except Cyborg. I hope they make that fight happen.

Tate makes more sense competitively, but Holm probably can bring in more money from uneducated fans who think she might win.

Holm is a stupid fight.

As far as Lawler-Condit in Australia, they'll have no problem selling out a stadium there for that kind of fight, IMO.

Everyone made weight except for one random strawweight chick.

The last two fights tomorrow night should be excellent (Neil Magny is one of my favorite fighters). The rest of the card is all blah, but its a free card, so whatever. The last 2 fights should start around 10pm central
