The Hateful Eight

Yeah, yeah I know it's also marketed as "The H8teful Eight", but that's dumb.

Anyway...trailer!

Kind of like Inglourious Basterds but still too cool! Supposedly they are having a special showing at some of the old school 'grindhouse' type theaters.

Hmmmm.....I dunno.

Maybe it's because the cold mountain scenes, etc... remind me so much of Django, but the casting on this one just doesn't seem up to par with other Tarantino flicks. Granted, it does have about 1/2 of the usual Tarantino suspects, but based on an admittedly short snippet, they just don't seem to work as well.

At some point he's going to disappointment me so I shouldn't hold these movies to such a high standard, but that teaser didn't get me nearly as ginned up to see it as most of his have.

I'm kind of like you, but a little optimistic that I'll be surprised. My problem is, I can't for the life of me picture in my mind what about this premise, and the little snippets I've seen in trailers, turns into a Tarantino extravaganza I've come to expect.

Nazi killing elite American Jews - I can see that
One of the world's elite assassins exacting revenge on her squad who double crossed her - Yes please!!
A freed slave wreaking havoc on the landed gentry through will and cunning - surefire!!

etc.

But a 'Dinner with Andre' talkie with a bunch of scruffy dudes and a female criminal cooped up in a winter cabin??

I'm at a loss. But my optimism views this as a plus, as I hope to be blindsided by brilliance.

The dialogue. Nobody does dialogue better than Tarantino.

Saw it, worse than predicted.

Scene after scene after scene of

Character Xxx: "Why! . . . Is that . . . Mr. Yyy? Why as I live and breathe, you are a sight for sore eyes. Haven't seen you since the epic/tragic/majestic event Xyxyx on the fields/shores/summit of blah blah, blah"

It looks a bit like a cross between Django and Reservoir Dogs.

Nice to see Jennifer Jason Leigh get thrown some work.
