I've always felt like a miracle win or two really propels your team for the rest of the season. We've had 4 miracle wins this season. That beats any of our 13-3 seasons and we still have 4 games to go. This team definitely believes.

The thing about those Royals teams is that the organization was not afraid to take ballsy risks top to bottom to go for the title. We were also bolstered by an incredible defense, bullpen, and an offense that took advantage of the dimensions of Kauffman Stadium. The Cueto trade addressed the teams biggest weakness while the Zo trade lifted our offense from good to great. The Chiefs likely won't have the opportunity to address their weaknesses like the Royals did.

But if the Chiefs offense continues to take risks and luck keeps falling in favor, I think we have at least a decent shot with the state of the AFC this year.
Fair enough and I agree with your assessments. But winning just breeds more confidence especially on the road against the defending SB Champ and the most prolific offense in the league. We will just have to continue to bend with our defense between the 20's and continue with more risky and timely play calling.

No one but you, Claynus, gives a **** about yards.

Points allowed, points scored and most importantly, wins.

All that matters.

"Confidence" "risky" "timely" is fine, but it doesn't carry a team all the way through the postseason. You have to genuinely be good on both sides of the ball.

Being on the low end of PPG on offense and middle of the road on defense isn't going to translate into a championship.

Unless the team can change itself into something new at this late stage, the turnovers and fluke plays aren't always going to be there.

It's pretty amazing how this Chiefs defense stiffens up in the red zone and gets turnovers. Reminds me of the early 90s Bills.

Not only is it just points allowed that is more important but the greater the difference between yards allowed and points allowed the better the defense. Its the "bendability" of a defense. So when a defense, such as KC, allows a lot of yards but relatively few points, they have a greater chance of winning. So check out yaqrds per point for a defense. The more yards per point allowed, the better the defense because it knows the defense is making the opposing offenses work harder. Quality Footballs stats used to provide this each year but I haven't seen an update from them in some time.

Ultimately, good teams find a way to win. Bad teams find a way to lose. And our record shows we are a good team.

Leave it to a football moron like Reerun to make a stupid ****ing thread comparing Chiefs teams 21 years apart.

The 1995 Chiefs beat ONE team with a winning record all year: The Chargers.

The 2016 Chiefs have beaten both Super Bowl teams from last year, ON THE ROAD, along with the 9-2 Raiders, ON THE ROAD.

SO SIMILAR!

This is before today's game.

In 1995 the Chiefs ended the regular season with the #1 over all defense. Since this year isn't over I can't compare that stat. So, let me give you the final rankings for the 1995 defense and where the 2016 defense stands in comparison.

The 2016 stats show where the Chiefs currently rank against all other 2016 teams.

The 1995 defense blows the 2016 defense away. It's not even close.

Yards given up Per Game.
1995 = #2 @ 284
2016 = #26 @ 381

Passing Yards given up Per Game
1995 = #5 @ 201
2016 = #19 @ 260

Rushing Yards given up Per Game
1995 = #3 @ 83
2016 = #29 @ 121

Points given up Per Game
1995 = #1 @ 15.10
2016 = #7 @ 19.45

The only stat they come close to measuring up in is scoring defense.

It would be interesting to see a statistical analysis of teams with a #20-#25 defense like ours in yards and a #25-30 offense like ours, and what they did in the postseason.
