We can trade the Colts our first, and third for Andrew Luck. I'll even throw Alex smith in for good measure.

Some teams constantly show the ability to maneuver throughout the draft and trade picks easily. The Chiefs are not one of those teams. For some reason we never have shown the ability or willingness to trade and maneuver in the draft (the exception being trading picks for crappy quarterbacks or for coaches).
Trading down would be an excellent idea IMO but we'll probably go another draft without seeing any movement. We'll probably see teams trading into the spot right before us to snag a player and San Diego getting a good haul for the #17 pick but we'll be left with our dicks in our hands once again. |

Also traded in 2003 and 2002. So 4 first round trades in 12 years, but they NEVER show the ability to maneuver in the draft?

Spin it how you will. Some teams constantly maneuver up or down to get the players they want. Some teams sit on their thumbs and hope the players will fall in their laps. You decide which one the Chiefs are.

Now that free agency is well on it's way, does anyone have any new scenarios in which the chiefs might find a partner to trade down in this years draft?
I like the talent in the 2nd and 3rd rounds this year a lot. |

I too like the second and third round talent.
However, as someone mentioned, the Chiefs have a good number of picks in this draft to get the guys they want. Keeping their #18 pick allows them to still have a chance at a guy that they have rated very highly on their draft board, BPA type of guy that they can roll the dice on. A high ceiling type of guy like Arik Armstead, Bud Dupree, Owamagabe Odighizuwa, Dorial Green-Beckham, Melvin Gordon, etc. There is really a lot of raw talent in the first round - some real physical freaks that have only begun to scratch at their potential. This season, I don't mind the Chiefs sitting pat and taking that type of guy in the first as they have a number of picks later and it's a pretty deep draft from a talent pool perspective. With potentially one second, two thirds, a fourth, and perhaps three fifth round picks, they'll have a chance to get those meat and potato players. I'm inclined to roll the dice on a freak in the first and at #18, I think that they will get their chance to do so. |

There is no way to know what teams draft boards look like and who they have rated high and who they don't. Agholor is a nice prospect at WR but will he make it to our 2nd pick? He has the talent of a 1st rounder but is a little slight of build so he's ranked in the 2nd round by the draft gurus out there. So all that said if we traded down to the bottom of the 1st and picked him I'd be alright with that. Of course you don't make that move until you see who's available at #18.
