SI : Chiefs have a problem and his name is Dwayne Bowe

His performance so far this season has been underwhelming. He is in a position to clock in his worst performance in the NFL so far and is projecting to have 54 receptions for 586 yards w/6TD.

Is his problem that defenses are keying in on him... or is it that, as suggested by Greg Bedard, that Bowe has lost a step and is no longer a top tier WR?

6. The Chiefs will win a lot of games with their current formula: good defense that takes the ball away (15 times so far) and an offense that doesn’t turn it over (just five) for an NFL-leading plus-10 in giveaways/takeaways. But to beat the good teams, they’re going to have to start stretching the field. Defenses know QB Alex Smith is overly conservative, so they’re dropping a safety down and playing a lot of man. The Chiefs have a big problem with receiver Dwayne Bowe. Not sure what has happened to him, but he lacks explosion and can’t beat man coverage anymore. Defenses don’t fear him at all.

Yet, the Chiefs are a legit 5-0 and counting, led by some of the best offensive minds in the NFL in Reid, Childress and Ault, yet Bowe is on pace for 750 yards?

WHO ****ING CARES?

This isn't fantasy football. If Bowe isn't running perfect routes or getting enough separation to make the QB throw to him or the head coach and OC design plays for him, **** him.

It's not the Kansas City Bowe's.
Come on, man. I like Alex and I'm a Bowe fan, but you have to admit Alex has some issues throwing to Bowe. Cassel could find him. Bowe is good about fighting for the ball. Alex just needs to trust him.

I really don't care. Seriously.

This team has far more offensive issues than Dwayne Bowe.

I also find it hilarious that everyone nationally is saying the same thing that local fans have been saying for years - lazy, uninterested, drops passes, poor routes, etc. - THEN, people run to his defense.

It would be nice if Bowe was more productive. But it would also be nice if Fisher, Allen, Hudson and Asamoah would play better and Fasano and Kelce were actually on the field and SOMEONE would step up and claim the slot role.

Dwayne Bowe is the least of my concerns.

To win in the playoffs, you generally need an above average defense and an above average offense. Seems we have a dominant defense, in which case, the offense only needs to be average. It's not there yet, but I think it will be once the O-line gets on the same page. I'm an offense homer, but I must say I'm really enjoying the 5-0 start, and am not really worried about Alex Smith at all yet.
I agree and disagree. It depends on what you mean by a "good offense." If an offense chucks the ball 3 times and repeatedly throws downfield, they're going to have a better YPA, more PPG, and more passing yards. Not enough credit goes to an efficient offense. I completely disagree that 3rd down efficiency is a crapshoot. Teams with better 3rd down efficiency set up manageable third down situations and a QB that knows how to convert.

No a lie

Cool story

You garbled "shutout" with crap about Bowe putting up middling statistics in games. WTF was I supposed to think?

And I believe you mean to blame me for saying, "It's Alex Smith's fault that Bowe's numbers are down in 2013."

It's partly Alex's fault, yes. He's not throwing him the ball. Again, as I've said REPEATEDLY in this thread, that doesn't mean Alex Smith is doing anything wrong necessarily. It just means Andy Reid is going to have to work harder to find ways to make Bowe a more appealing target for Smith. And that includes getting some WRs who can actually block downfield. With our top two TEs out, so far Bowe and Hemingway are the only receivers with the size and ability to spring other guys open for YAC. And Hemingway has barely touched the field. So guess who gets the primary job.

People were acting like Bowe not having huge games was something new. I listed game before Smith got to KC that Bowe did the same thing. Including games where he got shutout. THEY HAPPENED. It's the truth. They were not even a response to you. You put yourself in it by throwing out the BS that CJ gets shutout all the time. UNTRUE.

You label me a dumbass over and over yet you don't even understand the term shutout. Maybe someone needs to take a good long look in the mirror

Dwyane is getting double teamed every time he runs down the field. And that's okay. It's part of the reason we're having success with Avery and McGrath. Yes, it would be great if he could break one off a little more often so Alex could air it out, but he's not dropping passes or having trouble getting away from just one guy...if that were the case, then the Chiefs would have a real problem.
Yeah, no.

Get Alex more weapons adding another speedy wideout like Gordon would stop teams from doubling up Bowe and get him more targets. Adding TE Gonzalez for the playoff run would be great as well if the price is right.

Failing that 2014 has a great WR draft crop.

And just remember what the great KCCrusader is telling you all if your not a fan of the great Alex Smith your not a real live Chiefs fan and you need to get your reeruned troll ass the **** outta here!!!!!!!!
