To get a good coach, my assumption is simply that you have to decide to pay one. The other stuff is just noise. If Mizzou decided to get a name, established or up and coming, their facilities wouldn't stop someone from taking the job, former failure in recruiting wouldn't stop a guy from taking the job, and the regime that used to be in charge wouldn't stop a guy from taking the job.

Yup. If there was even a 1% chance of them getting Porter now, it's gone. Just let Anderson raze the program with his Hickory High reject recruits and flush all the turds in 2018.

I tend to agree with you on this one, but they face a couple of problems:

1) Because they will be coming off of NCAA sanctions, they'll be looking for a clean coach

2) No clean coach will be able to recruit here given the way that Norm's thinly veiled contempt for black players hurt and continues to hurt the perception of Missouri in St. Louis.

3) I'm not sure if the big money donors are actually willing to pony up the necessary funds to attract a name candidate.

4) If you are a name candidate, why come to a job like this whose perception is as bad as Missouri? Why start behind the 8-ball if you can get similar money elsewhere? If you're an up-and-comer, why take the Missouri job when your chances for success are actually greater at a Mid-Major and you can bide your time there looking for a job that will be better?

5) Never underestimate the stupidity of the people who are involved finding basketball coaches at this school.

Going back fifty years they picked the Marty Schottenheimer of CBB (probably being unkind to Marty here). He was replaced by Ellis from Die Hard. He was then replaced by an offensively-bereft ideologue whose idea of coaching was to run at the ball as quick as you could, who was then replaced by a homeless man's White Shadow.

This is the kicker.

Yes, if Mizzou had the only job opening in the country and was willing to pay a ton, they could get the best available coach.

But Mizzou's going to be in the coach market with probably a dozen other power 5 schools whenever it is that they decide to move on from this quixotic experiment. And when that happens, at least one or two of those schools will fancy themselves 'basketball schools' or at least recognize that the ROI is better so they'll focus their AD money on getting a coach.

Mizzou won't be winning any ties in the coaching marketplace - they'll not only have to pay more, but I would guess they'll have to pay substantially more and for substantially longer than essentially every other school looking for a coach at the same time. Because again, what does this school actually have working in its favor right now?

I see no reason to believe they would be willing or even able to win a bidding war at this point.

I agree.
1-3 and 5, though, are self-imposed problems. So it's not a matter of a coach not coming, but of Mizzou not doing what would be required no matter the curcumstances. 4 is a problem, but ultimately money would answer that.

In the end, all this stuff is dust on the sill compared with the hoarders mess that is Mizzou's unwillingness to pony up.

(And I get that that may be due to Pinkel, and not wanting to have another coach on campus paid more than himself)

It's sad...when Mizzou had decent to even good teams I was a huge CBB fan and totally invested, now I could care less about it...

Was at the game last night. Did not realize how horrific things were for Mizzou. That 20-2 start was so bad.

I'm sorry guys.

There literally is not a single bright spot in the program. Not a single shred of hope.

I know at least one prominent booster is in Rhoades ear about needing to make a change ASAP and has the funds to make it happen immediately, by himself.

Does that booster happen to follow Valpo basketball? I'm starting construction on the Bryce Drew bandwagon. Good seats are still available.
