The "War of the Worlds" broadcast was so technically brilliant it made people evacuate their homes and head for safer ground. Some people literally freaked out thinking martians were attacking. There was a message before the show saying it was a dramatization, but most people were watching another show. They tuned it late and freaked out because they trusted radio to provide news.

A similar "War of the Worlds" broadcast occurred in a third world country a couple decades ago. People got so upset they burned down the radio station that broadcast it.

The Stephen King story has nothing to do with the movie, as far as I know... (aside from the title)
Nothing in common with it, to say the least. That was back when I was like 14, and hooked on Stephen King. It, The Stand, etc. |

Meh, it was entertaining. The book was by far better but that is normal.
