Blomkamp wrote it (he's South African as I recall) so I think it's less about immigration than about the Rich versus the poor. I don't have a problem with that. What i have a problem with is not doing it well. Apparently he just beats you over the head with it for 2 hours.

You didn't go to the special Chicago screening? I heard it only hurts the first time he hits you with the film canister.

I'll go and see this, then listen to the Eagles' Long Road out of Eden. That should put me in the right mindset to give all my possessions to the nearest Indian and then use a hemp rope to hang myself from an endangered species tree.

Will not watch.

It was decent action, but the anchor around it's neck for me was the heavy handed leftwing political theme. It wasn't smart or interesting. It was what you'd expect from a movie if loneiguana wrote it. It could have been so much better.

Couldn't you argue that the movie represented the outcome of an out of control, tyrannical government which had no checks or balances?

Yes. It had the kind of out of control, tyrannical government that a leftwinger might imagine you'd get (incorrectly, of course) if there were no checks or balances to keep Republicans from having their evil way. At least that's how I saw it.
