Thinking about buying a gun...questions...just the basics

My boyfriend and I are in agreement that we'd like to own a gun. I need to take a basics class. He's somewhat familiar, but would probably also take the course as a refresher. We would like to take the lesson with our own gun, instead of using one of the range's, so that we could ask questions about our gun specifically. I guess my question is...where do we start?

He's doing his own research, but I would like to do some, too. I have no clue where to start though. I know we want a handgun (pistol...is there a difference?), and I don't think we'd need anything too big. I know the bigger the gun the bigger the recoil. I've shot two guns in my life, both on the same occasion, and only a few shots with each.

My boyfriend said something about a glock 9mm. Any suggestions? Any other questions I don't even know to ask?

EDIT: Finally purchased https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/glo...dCatid=7555491

Thanks in advance.

Also she's a pistol was a nice place to buy personal defense weapons with the best prices I could find. It's a damn shame they have to shut down because those punks killed one of the owners in a botched robbery.

I recommend John at Armed Citizen in Ozark. His shop is just across and down the street from Lambert's. Great classes... he posts schedules on FB. Search for Armed Citizen.
