Would you give Jones 3/100m or trade him?

We might as well start the conversation.

Aaron Donald got a 3 year extension worth 95m and Jones won’t/shouldn’t accept a penny less.

We can probably get the equivalent of 2 firsts if we trade him.

Poll will be up in a minute…

There are a few guys that should be out there in FA.

Javon Hargrave
Da'Ron Payne
Dre'Mont Jones

Those come to mind immediately. Not that you won't have to pay them well, but they are all closer to that 17-21m range than 33m.

My issue is, if you swap out say, Jones for Dre"mont Jones.

Yeah, you save money. Is that enough to actually go improve another spot enough to make up for losing Chris and all he brings? I mean, dude legit played on an Aaron Donald level this year.

it’s the only way to play for a SB every year. You have to trade your best players in their last year. Hope the new players improve the team.

The Pat’s did it. Great Oline. WR JAG’S and a good defense. Veach may already be following that model.

Can we just throw the Patriots thing out? I mean, that's just not gonna happen. You aren't gonna do what they did. It was a complete anomaly.

You'll have years where you're legit favorites and years where you have to reset a bit. But the Chiefs have Reid and Mahomes, the reset years they'll have a punchers chance.

I agree with this right here.

Donald and Ramsey are showing you cant simply cover up the inconsistent play of other positions on a team no matter if you're debated as the best at your position. How much money is tied up in those 2 on the defensive side of the ball, I'd love to know.

Trading Jones, you get a bulk of new players on small contracts. Obviously you know what you're trading, and you don't know what players you're getting but you really only need to tie in your $ to your QB, and some key pieces here and there. I feel like NE was the first team that started the whole, "don't pay RB's top dollar" anymore.

I don't see why we can't do what the patriots did with belicheck and Brady??

This year everyone was saying we were going to have a bad year without Hill, and that we had to revamp the team and the receiving corps. We didn't even have a #1 WR, and probably still don't yet here we are with the #1 seed after all that offseason garbage.

The Patriots are still doing it the Patriot way and If that patriots team had Mahomes they aren't an 8-9 team. They are probably 12-4. (that's 3 more wins not anything crazy).

Problem with going FA is that those guys will want what Jones gets, or close to it whether warranted or not, and they'll just say, "It's the price of doing business." Some of those guys are likely delusional enough to think they deserve more than Chris Jones. You're not going to replace Chris Jones' production unless it's in the draft. Chris Jones knows the system, he knows the team, he's been KC all his time here, so between FA or giving Jones a bit more, I say pay Chris Jones, or go into the draft and hope you can position yourself to get his replacement. Technically you got Jones at the top of the second round, so you could catch lightning in a bottle twice, but unlikely to be the same and at worse it would come back at you pretty hard. I would say pay him, then draft his eventual replacement to learn from him with your 1st round pick, or an edge/CB if one of those is there you like. At worst you have a bust, but at best you have a mean DLine rotation.

Yeah but they're cheap question marks!

CP, for as long as i can remember, has always had a cheap mindset.

For as much shit slung at the Clarks over the years for having cheap ownership, when it comes to these sorts of situations, the Chiefs fan base is cheaper.

We tried the Patriots way and ended up with Scott Pioli.

Let the Patriots be the Patriots, and let KC be KC. We will never be able to exactly copy their model. We are behind. Brady won 3 Super Bowls his first 4 years starting.

Jones will be 29. We got the best of Jones. In this hypothetical discussion, if you can trade him for a Reek type haul you do it.

This board went apopletic when Hill (also a potential gold jacket wearer) was sent to the fins. Finished 14-3. I'd be shopping Jones immediately. Especially if the Chiefs achieve the ultimate goal.

Quite the put down. I actually mean that, I am amused with that one.

Once again, at age 28 he just had his best career year and if Donald retires this year, he'll likely be widely considered the best DT in the league.....in a league where it is damn near impossible to find pass rush from the DT position.

Soooo we trade him for (?) and draft (?) while using that extra money to sign (?)

People need to stop bringing up the Pats too. They cheated. This is proven. Who knows how much other dirty shit they did but we KNOW they filmed other teams while they practiced....and deflated balls.

They are cheaters.

I still don't get what you're saying... Just because they are the patriots doesn't mean we shouldn't use what they do well. We let Tyreek walk because the organization knew that top dollar would be better spent elsewhere such as in the trenches. Brady/Mahomes during the majority of their career have always elevated their WR's. It's no wonder Randy Moss had his best career year ever under his first year with Brady..

2018 - AFC Championship Loss.
2019 - Superbowl Win
2020 - Superbowl Loss
2021 - AFC Championship Loss.
2022 - 1st seed in the AFC (TBD)

We literally are the new Patriots, not spending a shit ton of $ on RB's and WR's and drafting smart, and gaining a lot of draft capital off our quality players to replace them with rookies on small contracts or guys like JuJu who are young enough to be a quality player on a small prove it deal.
