He's doing the same thing Crennel did ... bend, bend, bend, bend and pray nothing bad happens

doesn't know when to blitz
doesn't know when to play prevent or more importantly when to come out of prevent
doesn't switch stuff up

Are we sure Crennel didn't sneak back into Arrowhead with a disguise on?

Considering the way time of possession and total yardage favored the Chiefs today, I'm thinking that we may have watched different games.

I still don't think he's that good. The difference has been the play of our defensive line.

Perhaps he took a play out of a certain baseball manager's book a decided to not do as many things that he wants, or dramatic things he thinks will get him talked about, and more things that make good common sense.

Our offense had 6,7 and 9 minute drives.

Kudos to Sutton for dropping last year's scheme completely and using Crennel's 3-4 bend/break defense.

Kudos to Sutton for putting Houston at LDE for more pass rush.

but let's not get carried away

Sutton still refuses to let his CBs jam WR at the Los to slow down routes and give the pass rush a second or two longer.

There's a designed reason for that, though.

I don't really know what to think. Let's be clear about something.... there are some massive, massive holes in our defense talent-wise and our defense has actually looked respectable.

I honestly wonder if a big part of it is that the two guys more responsible for on-field adjustments, DJ and Berry... maybe they aren't as smart as we thought they were. I originally wondered if Sutton just stopped getting cute without two playmakers, but I can't help but wonder if this is part of it. It just feels like this team plays a lot more aggressively without them. I don't know if it's because they have a chip on their shoulder, or what.

Hes using more cover 3 now which is good. Our guys still aren't very good at it, espeically the guys on the hook zones, luckily rivers missed the wide open guy on the first drive.

Its like, textbook Defensive Coordinating 101, and dare I say, Sutton is a ****ING GENIUS with some of the shit I watch on that field.

First part of your quote here, completely agree. We're looking great as we plug and play talent to find proper fitments and matchups, and we're keeping an identity on the front end with it.

As for the other part, what we're seeing right now is defensive adjustments being almost entirely taken out of the defense's control as Sutton is clearly giving them visual adjustment options in two directions and its called quickly by Mauga (I believe it was Mauga at least). The smaller, incremental adjustments are completely taken out of the system, except for the defensive front, that's still there. Sutton is doing an absolutely solid job at getting these guys comfortable and progressively adding wrinkles to the defense with the personnel we have, and it just goes to show how well Dorsey has put this team together with guys that Reid and Sutton can coach up.
