You know, I started the video thinking, "Meh". But it was pretty exciting...even though I knew what was going to happen. I love seeing runners separate like that. Like Usain Bolt...you may stay with him for 20 or 30 meters, but he'll pull away.

"American Pharoah makes his run for glory".
The call was a classic.

Hearing the fans roar, watching those beautiful, graceful animals giving everything they had, seeing the winner pull away to make history, the whole thing sent chills up my spine.
What a great race.

I love the Belmont Stakes. It truly is the test of champions, especially in this era. It's ironic that after Affirmed won, there were calls for making the triple crown tougher to attain.

Yep. The following year in '79, Spectacular Bid probably wins the Triple Crown if he doesn't step on a pin that infects his foot the day before the Belmont. He still finished 3rd after leading the race all the way into the home stretch.

Sure, millions can buy anything, but somewhere there is a short list of people who put in some serious time and effort to carefully create and hone the abilities of something worthy of the world's stage. Just a horse, it is not. |

Big Brown probably also would have won it if not for that cracked hoof and bad shoe.
