Raiders trade for Cap'n pick 6

@AdamSchefter: Oakland Raiders now are expected to trade a 2014 late-round pick to Houston Texans in exchange for QB Matt Schaub, per league source.

Are you claiming they are bad players? The market seemed to have a different take on them.

Yes, those are the kind of signings that really help over the long haul. What bad team needs talented guys in the prime of their careers when they can sign the over-the-hill gang.

Never said they were bad players. That being said, neither do I remember anyone on this board clamoring for them. Why did the Chiefs not sign them, then? How are Routt and Boss doing by the way?

Last time the Raiders made a Super Bowl appearance they were filled with "over the hill" guys in their 30s. Care to talk about the last time the Chiefs made it to a Super Bowl?

Matt Schaub will not need to win a quarterback competition in Oakland to become the Raiders’ starting quarterback. He already is the Raiders’ starting quarterback.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said after Schaub arrived in a trade with the Texans that Schaub will open the season as the No. 1 quarterback.

“We brought Matt Schaub in to be our starting quarterback,” Allen said. “We feel very confident that he is going to be able to come in and function in that role and be outstanding for us. Obviously, we love having competition within the team, but right now Matt Schaub is our starting quarterback.”

The Raiders also have Terrelle Pryor, Matt McGloin and Trent Edwards on the roster, and they could draft a quarterback like Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel or Derek Carr. But Allen, who was an assistant coach in Atlanta when the Falcons drafted Schaub in 2004, says Schaub is his guy.

“This is a guy that is a two-time Pro Bowl player. When you get an opportunity to add those type of players, that’s what we’re looking to do,” Allen said.

Now the Raiders have to hope Schaub looks more like a two-time Pro Bowler and less like the guy who was benched last year.

@adbrandt: Dennis Allen: "We brought Schaub in to be our starting quarterback." Translation: "We're not paying him $11M to sit on the bench."

I don't think the Raiders are spending that #5 pick on a QB. I'm smelling Sammy Watkins.

You think taking shots at me via the Chiefs is an effective tactic? You must have missed the memo.

And, to repeat, getting rid of your good young players is not usually how you improve a team. You want to keep your young talent when possible. Old talent doesn't usually remain as 'talent' for long. That's not a good thing when you're a shitty team stuck in a rebuild.

You know, like the Raiders.

Sure, but knocking the Rams on the basis of relevancy in order to defend the Raiders actions is really ****ing stupid. Since 2002, no team in the NFL has been less relevant than the Oakland Raiders.

1 Have you ever thought maybe Veldheer and Houston just didn't want to play in Oakland? Do you want to tag a player that does not want to be here?

I would rather have 11 good players on each side than 1 or 2 exceptional players on each side...

Raiders will be better even with one of the hardest schedules in the NFL, Bank on it..

All these players the Raiders acquired will be there to help the young guys coming in, if the Raiders draft is shit then we are in the same situation, if the Raiders draft quality, they will be set.. Deny all you want, Bash, Piss and moan all you want, I expect that on a rival forum but you can usually tell by the way your rivals react to your acquisitions if they are worried about them.
I admitted Smiff is much better than I would have ever imagined, good for you guys.. Why can't some of you just admit the Raiders got alot tougher.. Last place? Maybe, Maybe not...

Obvious statement of the month.

If the Raiders would draft quality in ANY given year, they wouldn't be in last place so often.
