I'm really starting to wonder if xbmc is really worth all the hassle. I'm having tons of trouble with buffering on it now. I have no problems with any other video service, aka netflix, amazon, vudu, cinemanow. But I can't seem to watch anything on XBMC anymore without it buffering for 5 minutes or more.

I am having the same conflict on recommending XBMC as well, but for a different reason. People using XBMC use to be so helpful. Now they are just so shitty to each other. I cannot recommend XBMC to someone and expect them to be helped anywhere in the community. It is just so toxic now.
Which box do you have? The streaming add ons are so hit and miss. Right now, the youtube addon is the bane of my existence. However, on my HTPC xbmc's, playing torrents are working amazing.

Picked up a Fire TV last weekend to replace my loyal but aging Boxee Box.
Love it. XBMC streams flawlessly. Emulators work very well. Access to Amazon Instant Video (remastered ST:TNG!) and Hulu Plus is very nice, something I didn't have with the Boxee. Would recommend. edit: also, those having trouble with XBMC streaming, try using NFS instead of SMB. It's a way more efficient protocol. Hannewin NFS is a good server for Windows. It takes a little configuration but there are a ton of tutorials for it. Last edited by scorpio; 07-12-2014 at 09:09 AM.. |

XBMC has never run better for me. Running XBMC Gotham 13.1. It's been rock solid. Haven't had a single issue in weeks.
I got a 3rd party bluetooth gamepad from Amazon for $20: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's been great. Got hooked on a few games now. Sev Zero is really fun. Asphalt 8 is also a blast. Dungeon Quest has been highly addictive. The kid digs Minecraft. Being able to switch between Netflix/Pandora/Games and XBMC within about 10 seconds is pretty sweet.

My main problem with it currently is that search appears to be completely broken, for me at least.
I search and it just returns every move in the database. I also tried that Genesis app, and all I got from it was a bunch of old movies. Search didn't work and none of the category views worked.

You might want to consider doing a fresh start and installing the latest version. I did, and I'm running Gotham 13.2 final. It's been flawless.
I had lots of issues when I tried upgrading from older versions. But when I did a fresh start and started from scratch, everything worked perfectly. You will lose everything though. http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/how-to-f...h-fresh-start/

You can use trakt.tv. It integrates with Genesis and can be synced on any PC or device.

Create an account at Trakt. Create your lists in trakt, as in TV, Movies, Kids stuff, etc.
Make your Trakt lists public on the website, so you can see them. Download the trakt plugin in XBMC. It's found in the XBMC.org official repo. Enter your trakt info into Genesis settings. Read up: http://www.xbmchub.com/forums/thread...ighlight=trakt Quote:
