Let's talk about the Chargers.

The Chargers are 2-7. They are a bad team. With, incidentally, the league's most prolific passer this year.

Every year it's a different Rivers. One year it's petulant child Rivers, then another year it's petulant child that's super good Rivers. Two years ago, he was one of the best QBs in football. Last year, well, at least he's right with Jesus.

Well he's back in world-beating mode this year. He's put up ungodly stats so far and is on pace to break some records. He's also completing his passes at a 69% clip -- it is so far a truly masterful performance.

So... why only 2-7?

Because the rest of his team sucks.

Despite the Bolts burning a 1st round pick on him, Melvin Gordon looks nothing like the world beater he was advertised as coming out of Wisconsin. The Chargers boast a Bottom 10 run game in the NFL. The offensive line, as is the case with almost every team in the NFL, can't block for shit in either phase.

All year, Rivers has been supported only by a very good receiving corps. Keenan Allen is a stud, Stevie Johnson is a good fit as a #2, and Malcolm Floyd is a steady vet presence that I wish the Chiefs had instead of Avant. Add in future Hall of Famer Antonio Gates at TE, and that's a very good corps... that is now thrown into disarray because Keenan Allen is gone for the year with injury. Ouch. Stevie Johnson is nobody's idea of a #1 WR, and other than Floyd, I'm not sure if any of the Bolts' other WRs have names.

Gates remains as their one legit threat, but with Abdullah, Parker, and Berry, the Chiefs do better against TEs than almost everybody. (EDIT: nobody defends TEs better than the Chiefs.) So it's going to have to be a Herculean effort by Rivers, and that's assuming the OL can somehow keep Houston, Hali, Bailey, Howard, Ford, and Poe off his sack. Which they likely won't.

As for defense, again, the Chargers are all around terrible. They are one of the least-deep defenses in the NFL, and their starting talent isn't lighting the world on fire, either.

Their defensive line is the always-awesome Corey Liuget and a couple guys just barely holding up their end of the bargain. Reyes is a good talent but isn't a world beater. There is no other talent on the DL. That's it.

Their passrushers might even be worse. At 16 sacks, the Chargers have one of the worst passrushes in the league. Melvin Ingram leads the team with 2. Jeremiah Attaochu (bless you) has 2. That's it. Nobody else on the team even has that. With a rejuvenated OL, the Chiefs should be able to provide a clean pocket for passing, where the Chargers rank in the Bottom 10 at defending.

They're solid at ILB, led by Manti Te'o and Donald Butler, but they aren't going to mask the deficiencies on the DL. The Chargers are, again, Bottom 10 at run defense as well. It's easily one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

The question on defense: Can Philip Rivers single-handedly overcome every advantage the Chiefs have on defense?

The question on offense: Can Andy Reid stop the navelgazing and call a straight game?

I say Chiefs win, 27-12. Thoughts welcome.

Just did a waiver request dropping Peyton Manning for Smith. Rolling with Derek Carr and Smith the rest of the fantasy year. Might start Smith just because of the crap teams the chiefs play.

No, it's not. Chicago's a much better team than in the beginning of the season and they'll be playing outdoors in the cold of Chicago, with a first time starting QB.

Fox and Gase will do their best to exploit Osweiler and if I were a Broncos fan, I'd prepare for the worst.

They're more familiar with his strengths and weaknesses than any men on the planet and will work to expose him, which in turn, will set up a blueprint for every defense to follow.

Osweiler is as unproven a QB there is in the NFL and facing the Bears in his first start will likely spell disaster.
Wow thats some pretty damn good detective work there.

Yeah but Jay Cutler vs that defense?

He's going to take 3+ sacks and commit several turnovers. And the Bears defense isn't exactly scary.

Donks probably win that game.

Jay Cutler just destroyed the Rams defense, on the road.

It's in Chicago and will likely be in the 30's at game time.

And Osweiler is completely unproven, going up against a Vic Fangio defense.

Watch how uninspired the Broncos defense will play when they realize Osweiler can't deliver.

As long as our offense aka Cairo Santos is on our team I'm not worried about the Chargers this week. MVP bros.

The Denver win means nothing if the Chiefs fail to show up and win on Sunday.

This is a team the Chiefs should beat, but they will still have to play well, and the offense is still a concern given our poor play at QB.

I'm more concerned about Andy's play calling than I am about Alex Smith.
