Chiefs reach out to Louis Riddick for GM spot

@RapSheet: The #Chiefs have reached out to ESPN analyst Louis Riddick to set up an interview for next week for their now-vacant GM job, sources say.

Report: Chiefs want to interview Louis Riddick for G.M. opening

Posted by Josh Alper on June 25, 2017, 10:53 AM EDT

The Chiefs made waves last week with the surprising announcement that they had dismissed General Manager John Dorsey after four years with the team.

The team’s co-directors of player personnel*Mike Borgonzi and Brett Veach are expected to be candidates for a promotion, but the team will be looking outside the organization as well. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chiefs want ESPN analyst Louis Riddick*to interview*for the job.

Riddick was a defensive back for several teams in the 1990s and worked in the personnel departments in Washington and Philadelphia before making the move to TV. Riddick interviewed for the 49ers General Manager vacancy earlier this year before they hired John Lynch.

Riddick said he was close to getting that job and,*true or not, it looks like he’s getting another chance to make his case for running an NFL personnel department.

Riddick has 10 plus years as a scout. Yes Riddick did work with Reid in Philly but he knows his players. Look at who they drafted while he was there.

My thoughts as well. I actually like Riddick a lot, but I don't see this going out of the organization unless someone really blows them away

Most importantly Riddick realizes that Alex Smith has peaked in his career. He loves Mahomes and realizes that our run defense has sucked ass. He was with Reid from 2008-2013 and he was director of pro personnel in Washington 1991-1998

Technically this wouldn't be going out of the organization. He has ties to Reid and right now he works at ESPN

I don't doubt his credentials. We're not talking about any front office job. We're talking about a Chiefs team that had one of the best personnel departments in football. And now we're getting second pick to a 49ers team that had one of the least attractive GM openings in the market?

It's not like Riddick was popping off the page for anyone else. If they want to bring him for our personnel department, I'd be ecstatic. But not our GM.

Good thing here is he knows the Chiefs probably have the best 53 man roster in the NFL. He has said before that he thinks Alex Smith is holding this team back. He loves Mahomes as well

These interviews have to be awkward as hell for both sides. He has to be wondering, "Is this a REAL interview, or are you just talking to me because I'm a minority?" Probably figures it's a good opportunity to network regardless. Not every day you get an in-person meeting with an NFL owner.

So you think Veach is more qualified than Riddick? Finding a former gm to take over the Chiefs probably isn't gonna happen. Dorsey was never a GM before when he took over and he was phenomenal at finding talent.

No, but it's a "Good Look" for the franchise.
