The $270,000 a year janitor job working for the San Fran BART

I'm in the wrong profession! Chinese guy strikes gold in San Fran. Another 49 janitors made over $100,000 a year in 2015. No wonder BART is always raising rider fares. What a crock. Sounds like he went into the closet to sleep and nap. I'm not impressed with his 18 days in a row as I worked 55 straight days in 2015 from Feb until April, including every weekend.

Cameras reportedly catch BART janitor who pulled in $270,000 in year spending hours in closet

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/02/07...in-closet.html

A BART janitor in San Francisco who raked in $271,000 in a single year, based largely on overtime work, was captured on video disappearing into a storage closet at one of the stops and—at times- spending hours a day there.

KTVU requested surveillance video to observe how Liang Zhao Zhang would spend his marathon, 17-hour work day. At one point, the channel reported that Zhang entered the closet twice in one shift, once for 54 minutes and the other for 90 minutes.

Zhang said that he takes his meal breaks during that time. A spokeswoman from BART said Zhang was paid every day in 2015 because he “signs up for every overtime slot that becomes available.

“He is likely working almost every day of the year cleaning our stations. He is signing up for the time that is also available to others – if he doesn’t take the hours, someone else will. The sign-ups are based on seniority,” she said.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that 49 other janitors made over $100,000 in 2015.

Zhang reportedly was called “superhuman” for the amount of hours he put in, at one point working 17 hours for 18 days in a row in 2015.

Thats the worst part of the city to visit. Its super touristy. Despite being a on a 7x7 grid the place is a remarkably diverse melting pot. You can walk from one block to the next and have a completely different experience of The City. none taken, this isn't my home town I chased the $$ here. It is not well kept because its a haven for homeless and vagrants. Its a losing battle, trying to keep it clean.

What's your price range for a house? I'm currently looking through Colorado Springs and Manitou and have thought the prices have been pretty reasonable for Colorado.

You can also PM me if you're wanting a more in depth discussion.

If you're willing to go down to North Pueblo (I preferred the Springs/Manitou), houses are literally dirt cheap. It's one of the ten cheapest cities to buy homes in the U.S.

The train to the plane? Yeah, it's been up since last April or so.

I make well over 100k a year and live paycheck to paycheck. SF sucks in that regard but rules if you're a straight, single guy.
I lived at 156 Sansome in Telegraph Landing for two years from 96-98 and then in Apts on High School Way in Mountain View so I know how expensive it is.

To make "well over 100K" and subject yourself to those shitty living conditions is pretty foolish IMHO.

Why not look to rent a nice room in Silicon Valley and bank some money? Take Cal Train into the city everyday.

Not wise if you are living paycheck to paycheck on 125-170K a year or more.

I wouldn't buy. I'd only be there for 5-7 years, at most. Thanks for the advice. Ill check it out.

How thew hell did you live in the middle of all that mess? I wouldn't be able to sleep.

SV is just as or more expensive than SF. Huge tech companies down there and they pay a lot for their talent so the housing market has skyrocketed. Hell, Oakland is 90% of what it costs to live in SF now. More if you include the increased renters and car insurance and the extra cost of riding on Bart.

I agree it sucks but Im so close to breaking trough the glass ceiling and into upper management that its worth the gamble living paycheck to paycheck, at this point (no kids, no real bills, etc.)

You don't know San Francisco for someone who lives there. I lived below Coit Tower in the North Waterfront, across the street from Levi's Plaza and the Fog City Diner.
https://goo.gl/maps/eDTiSBtFqKK2

My area was QUIET as all hell. I lived across the street from 101 Lombard, where a bunch of the SF 49'ers lived.

You can rent a GREAT room with private bath in a nice home or townhome-condo for about $800-1200 a month. You're making a HUGE mistake.

What section of the city do you live in?

Wiping off cum on the BART platforms is serious work.

SF needs its own currency at this point. Crazy how expensive everything is up there, and that's coming from someone who's lived in West LA for the last decade.
