Per keg's comment, I did a project in rural West Virginia many years ago and drove around the state doing interviews. I had two people mention the inbreds as a population of interest in the study, and I had another person tell me that 'if you're going to go to church this weekend [while in town], be sure to ask first if it's a serpent-handling church'.

I've got a conductor friend that worked for a short while in Knoxville, Tennessee. She said there was a Kroger grocery store on the far side of town in which plenty of inbreds could be seen daily.

It was nicknamed "Halloween Kroger".

Every time I hear the word "inbred", I think of that horror movie... "Wrong Turn".
