Kitchen/Laundry Room Cabinets

I'm helping my parents oversee the constriuction of a small addition on their home to help make it possible for them to live there longer. Currently the laundry and all that jazz is in trhe basement, so we are going to build an addition that allows us to move that upstairs and also some flex space. They have a pretty small house, which is great, but when we all visit we run out of space, so I'm trying to make it more of a multi-functional room. In all I think we are looking at at 14x22 foot addition.

1. If anyone has thought and ideas on what we should or not do, I would welcome any input.

2. When we crack open the house we are going to be transitioning into the kitchen, so I'm encouraging them to do it right, re-do all the floors, ceilings, cabinets, at the same time so it looks like a coheasive unit.

My questions:

1. Any ideas of what that size of addition will cost? Just a slab foundation.
2. What do mid-grade cabinets run? Just looking for a price point so I can start figuring out what my main costs are.

Thanks.

My friends have had good luck with Ikea for mid-grade cabinets. Seems they run around 10k for a medium sized kitchen plus instillation.

We bought ours at Lowes, very happy with them. Caught them having a sale, about $7k I believe.
