Chiefs Trade G Rishaw Johnson to Buccaneers for S Kelcie McCray

http://nfltraderumors.co/chiefs-trad...kelcie-mccray/

Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith announced Thursday that they have traded S Kelcie McCray to the Chiefs in return for G Rishaw Johnson, per the Pewter Report.

Johnson, 25, signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of California University of Pennsylvania. he was reportedly competing with rookie Zach Fulton for the Chiefs right guard position.

There is no question the Buccaneers could use some extra depth at guard, which appears to be one of their biggest issues on their current roster.

In most circumstances the team would have improved to 8-8 or so, which seemed to be Dorsey's goal given the parameters of the Alex Smith trade.

So he wanted to **** over our salary cap for one year of 8-8 and then fade into the distance with a cap-strapped team and very little in terms of star players?

That was pure dumbassery.
Read the post that I responded to. Mcaj said, specifically, that you should tank. No team, unless they are the Colts and Andrew Luck is going to be in the next draft, is going to tank on purpose. (Look how well that worked out for Jim Caldwell as HC of the Colts in 2011.)

This is a win now league, very few coaches, if any, are allowed the luxury of building their roster slowly over several seasons these days. Unless you have Jerry Jones' backing you like he has backed Jason Garrett, you can't afford to have mediocre seasons in order to have higher draft picks.

You would lose your job before you could do anything with those high picks that you tanked for.

Same situation as what Herm Edwards inherited. Only Herm sledgehammered the team, Dorsey is trying to make the rebuild less painful. The fault is of the previous regimes to fill the team up with young talent. Maybe we forgot that Dorsey has pretty much ridded the team of most of Pioli's players. He gutted almost half of the roster.

I guess the Chiefs could have chosen to not replace those guys and tanked… a year after "save our chiefs" I don't see that happening. Or they could have just held on to Pioli's guys and gradually let them go. If we drafted Geno last year, that would have been a 3-year process too. No matter what scenario you present, there was only one scenario where we're competitive in 2014. That's a scenario where we spent 2 years spending out our ass in a "win now" strategy. I don't want to see that. If this offseason is how we're going to start running things, I'm much more pleased with that direction.

After Hunt just bought out Pioli's expensive-ass contract, hand-picked his own head coach, and also signed the dotted line on his new GM? You're telling me that one season of cleaning house, collecting better draft picks, and saving cap room would have resulted in Dorsey/Reid being fired?

There was ZERO pressure to win now. The Chiefs were going to improve regardless of what they did. Fans were going to support the team.

They didn't have to sign Fasano and Sean Smith. They shouldn't have given expensive contracts to Colquitt and Bowe.

We're now suffering through their irresponsible mistakes when we SHOULD be loading up.

Suffering from an 11-5 season? I'm sure that the Browns fans and Raiders fans would love to suffer like that. You act like this team has absolutely no shot of getting to the playoffs.

I'm not sure who watched last year's team and thought we were on the way to greatness. I feel like we are in No Man's Land. We have some quality players that will 1) keep us from sucking and 2) give us enough cap challenges to keep us from making the improvements needed to get better.

Yeah, but how relevant are they right now? How close are the Raiders to having a highly competitive roster?

How close are the Chiefs?

Mediocre QB, 1 WR, terrible OL, terrible secondary.

Charles isn't going to win a SB by himself.

We are already competitive enough with the roster as it is to make the playoffs, anything can happen there. We just need a few pieces to become truly dominant (another WR, #1 CB, FS, OG).

I disagree.

This was going to be a 3-year project no matter what. We are well positioned next year to cut a lot of those fatty contracts. And that's easily doable if our draft picks pan out. Which is why, again, the strategy is fine as long as we draft well.

So we dumped Flowers and Albert this year and Bowe and Hali next year. We replace those fatty contracts with Smith, Berry, and Houston. That is a net loss in cap dollars. IF Ford and Fisher both pan out we are only down 2 on talent on the field. Charles and DJ are a year older. The arrow isn't going in the right direction on talent or cap dollars.

Yep, imagine that? If you plant things in good soil, they usually grow. It's hard for me to understand how fast people dismiss coaching, chemistry and growth for paper talent evaluation. There's no way they are trying to tank. They've been thinking about the 2014 offseason since they got here. This isn't just drink a six pack on Friday night and cut people on Sunday.
