Air Supply
Dr. Hook
The Little River Band
Captain and Tennille
Debbie Gibson

Honorable mentions:
Abba
Bread
America
The Beach Boys

Seriously, for me:

1. Stones
2. Zepplin
3. The Who
4. AC/DC-Aerosmith (tie)
5. U2-REM (tie)

Honorable mentions: CCR, Doobie Brothers, Boston, The Clash, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Talking Heads, REM, the Kinks, the Pretenders, RUSH, Foriegner, Judas Priest, Tom Petty, The Eagles, KISS, Van Halen, ZZ Top, The Police, The Cars, Clapton, INXS, YES, Eurythmics, Guns and Roses, Lenny Kravitz, Sublime, Collective Soul, and many others.

Contenders I'd admit to friends, but not to strangers list: (and some you may not consider "bands"): KC and the Sunshine band, the Gap Band, Parliament, Earth, Wind, and Fire, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Styx, Queen, REO, Journey, Cheap Trick, The Scorpions, Jefferson Starship, Triumph, Nirvanna, Pearl Jam, Elton John, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Cure, New Order, and Bon Jovi. Today, Nickelback, Linkln Park, Eminem, Nelly, Pink, and others.

Pearl Jam, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, Elton, Prince, Parliament and the Gap Band - yes. Those are all great artists and you shouldn't be ashamed to like them; even to strangers.

The early Jefferson Starship, sure.

I LOVE Fleetwood Mac. One of my all-time favorite bands, every single era. Peter Green, to the Kirwin/Spencer-fronted ensemble, then to Christine McVie/Bob Welch era, Stevie/Lindsey, Billy/Rick, Becca/Billy, back to Stevie/Lindsey (sans-Christine).

Fleetwood and McVie are SICK - everything they play has giant balls. Even You Make Loving Fun and Dreams, all the played out shit from Rumours still sounds amazing.

Nothing wrong with a whole buncha Mac at all.

Yeah, Fleetwood Mac I shoulda put with honorable mentions...the other stuff kinda of TIC, because I really love a lot of that stuff regardless of how great the artists were--it's the music that just takes me back to some great, great times.

Top Five for me, really depends on my mood. Different tunes for different moods.

As others have said it depends on my mood. These 5 are ones I can listen to at any time.

Neil Young (especially with Crazy Horse)
Allman Brothers Band
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Pink Floyd
Beatles

First off, to me Rock is Rock, not Pop. Therefore bands like the Beatles are out.

1. Led Zeppelin
2. AC/DC
3. Guns n Roses
4. Black Sabbath
5. Kiss

I wanted to nominate people like Chuck Berry, the Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, the Kinks, the Clash, Lynard Skynard, and others but they are either more pop or just not the top 5. I also love Ted Nugent but he is never taken seriously as one of the greats

To me when you hear great rock you have to wanna head bang and jump around and press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and run real fast and get whipped into a frenzy.
