My niece could use some prayers

Long story very very short.....My niece has been in the hospital for just over a week. She had some infection in her blood that started with a broken leg a couple months ago. Progressively got worse over the last week & she is now being life watched from St. Francis in Wichita to Children's Mercy in KC this morning. Her kidneys & liver are shutting down and they don't know why.

Any good thoughts, prayers, whatever you have - she can use them right now.

Okay, but for me, it can't be on "chemo week" because I have a sensitivity to cold then. Sigh... and I like cold, I really do.

Rain Man, appreciate the kind, though totally incorrect thoughts.

HOWEVER, for a slight fee, I might be able to conjure up a few "prayers" to assist with your revenue goals. In fact, every dollar "tithed" for this fine venture will result in one "prayer" headed your way. Need 10,000 prayers? Simply send $10,000 to my paypal account.

Bless you.

Seriously though, CP is a great forum with a bunch of great folks participating. Just awesome the way CPers rally to help one another in times of need!!!

Friday night, the MRI was done and it wasn't good. She was posturing which is an indication of severe brain damage. This was the phone call that we got where the doctors said that she may never wake up and if she did, she likely would need life long assistance.

Saturday morning, we headed to Kansas City expecting the worst. When we got there and finally got back to see her, her vitals were better. Her kidneys were functioning well, but she wasn't breathing on her own. She hadn't been doing the posturing at all on Saturday - which was good - but she still wasn't awake.

As my wife & I were talking to her sister, Allie started moving. Like being uncomfortable in bed and shifting around to get comfortable. Lifting her head a little, moving her legs and arms. It was probably just a few minutes of movement, but everyone was so happy that you would have thought she jumped out of bed and ran a marathon.

The liver doctor was in shortly after, and said that a level (of what I don't remember) that had been high had come down to acceptable levels - which meant her liver was starting to function again.

All good stuff.

Sunday morning, I get woken up by my wife at 630am crying. With her shaking me awake, she just says "Allie is awake!" Around 5am, Allie apparently got tired of being asleep and just woke up.

We got to the hospital and I almost died. She was breathing nearly on her own, her liver was functioning well, kidneys were doing well (although there are still some issues with them), opening her eyes, answering questions by shaking her head, squeezing peoples hands when asked. They did another MRI and what they initially saw on Friday, they didn't see anymore. The neurologist was in and basically said that unless some other issue came up, he didn't see any reason that he would be back.

I'm not sure what to call it, and I can't explain it, but they think there is a good possibility that she'll make nearly a full recovery.

Thank you all for the continued prayers.
That is awesome man! Great to hear this!
