Opinions range all over the place on this issue, and rather than clutter up threads with my staunch disagreement with some folks, I figured a poll on this issue would be the best way to figure out the overall pulse.

If you think he'd net us something that's not listed on here (like 2 2nd round picks or something like that) then do your best to estimate what that approximate value would be.

Because most people realize that using W/L record as the primary way to evaluate a QB is absolutely idiotic.

He still has 10-15 years ahead of him if he stays healthy, his story is still yet to be written. Alex Smith is going on 34 and has proven to be unable to finish against playoff teams and advance in the playoffs.

It's a sad tale:

Faces second job threat, comes out swinging, sees what he could have been doing all those years, runs smack in to adversity again, retreats back in to shell, downward slide commences.

how long did it take smith to win a playoff game?

It also depends on how all these guys play that are supposed to make 2018 a banner draft year for Quarterbacks. Some of them are struggling, if that continues it will increase the value of QBs in FA and Trade dramatically.

Personally, I think we need to trade Smith for cap reasons. I want us to just destroy some team who wants Alex Smith in the offseason. I dream of getting franchise tag value for Alex Smith.

(dream sequence) Some team watches as the 2 best QBs get drafted right in front of them in 2018. They don't have much choice but to give us their 1st round pick this year AND next year for Alex Smith. The Chiefs are suddenly on the clock ... We get the best defender in the draft and have two 1st round picks in 2019(end dream)

A playoff quality starting QB is worth a first rounder, I think, even if it's a low first round pick.
