Yeah, BABIP can be kind of misleading when being used to argue a guy has "bad luck". Which is another term that is kind of misleading. There's 8 non pitcher defenders who have been placed in exact positions due to professional scouting reports. Most of those 8 are elite athletes. If you hit a ball and they make a play on it, that's not bad luck, that's an MLB player making a play. A ball going fair that is blown foul by the wind or a runner who would have easily scored having to retreat to 3rd on a ground rule double, that's bad luck.

No, I'm afraid BABIP and bad luck don't save Kendrys here. He just sucks right now. Hopefully he turns it around

The Kansas City Baseball Prospectus team broke down Morales last week; subscriber only, but interesting stuff:

Clifs:
He's hitting the ball hard - good average exit velocity of 95 mph - but is hitting the ball into the shift more than he has in past years/last year.

There's some bad luck involved, but the answer is more complex than that.

He needs to start punching the ball up the middle/the other way more often from the left side of the plate.
