Holy goddamn shit. I thought I was going to be conflicted on the new Baroness, but this thing is giving me ****ing chills. Wow. End of "Twinkler" brought tears to my eyes. Certainly a departure for them, and purists may not like it... but shit. Once again they hit my sweet spot.

So every now and then, an album/song comes along and I say to myself, "This is going to be big," and I almost feel guilty for listening to it because I know that before long every Tom, Dick, and Harry is going to be listening to it, and I'll be completely burnt out on it (Gotye, Mumford and Suns, Fun.). Still, it's fun to be in on the ground floor. So this is your notice to get in on the ground floor.

Ironically, I was searching out the proper thread to ask the cool kids if I was supposed to be enjoying Fun as much as I have for so long. Their most recent SNL appearance has me mainlining the album all over again.

It's like Freddie Mercury and Paul Simon had a secret love child who actually founded the REAL Polyphonic Spree, and I find nothing wrong with any aspect of that scenario.

But I fear my inevitable descent into fogeyism

Then again, FTR, I don't give a shit what anyone thinks of my Mumford love. Folk with roots in the Emerald Isle has always had a centerplace in my heart

Does the opinion of a fogey like New Chief carry enough weight for you to feel good about this or does it confirm your fears?

Fair enough. Based on your post, I'm listening to Fun.'s latest again (I wasn't terribly impressed with it the first time aside from their two hits) and it sounds pretty decent now to my fogeyish ears. I like your Freddie Mercury / Paul Simon comparison. I think it's changed the way I'm hearing it this time.
