I'm not an adjuster, but I do analytic/audit work for an insurance company and most adjusters seem like they're miserable with the job. How many people really ever agree with their insurance adjuster on the value of their car/home/roof? I think success/happiness really depends on if your personality is a fit for day in and day out debates with people that despise you. Last edited by KCUnited; 10-31-2014 at 10:57 AM.. |

My wife worked in claims for 10 years, and was miserable. Every customer she ever dealt with was pissed off.

My buddy loves it, He has been married a couple years now. No strain on his relationship to my knowledge. He does not let the job bother him. Basically unless there is a gigantic catastrophe, he stays in the KC region. He went down to Katrina to help for a month. I am not sure how many of them there are for his insurance company in town. I assume a lot since he does not go to every big event in the country that needs help. Makes me think there is a lot of them.

I took a job right out of college as an entry level adjuster (business major). I hated it (left after two years), but I suspect partly because it was a crappy company that offered very little professional development and not much pay upside. The experience did help me get into a field I really wanted (healthcare marketing, Rx and medical supplies).
You do need a certain personality, one that doesn't mind telling people "no" just about every minute of every single day. If you get in with someone like State Farm, or Farmers they have great training programs, benefits and salary progression if you are even remotely driven or ambitious. It wasn't for me, but I think it is worth the experience if you want to give it a shot. |
