Whats the coolest thing you've done at work?

I've been lucky to do a few cool things (ride alongs on ANG refueling flights, etc.) but this may have been one of my funnest moments...

What kind of cool stuff have you gotten to do on the job?

I used to wrangle crocs, gators, and caimans for the crazy croc lady in midtown KC.
This was about 25 years ago.

She had them in her back yard and I would feed them and move them into her house for winter. We had a box for the smaller ones; the big ones we let loose (undid their cages) and they would walk into her basement where their winter hutches were.

Along with Inky the crow, she also had about 3-4 pairs of breeding macaws and parrots in her house. I wonder what a blue and gold macaw fledgling goes for? Inky once took my car keys and flew out the window! (dropped them just outside the house into a croc pen; little ****er did it on purpose.)

She also had a mission against fluoridated water, said it was bad for people and animals.

The pay was shit, but I haven't had any other jobs that were even close to as cool as that was.

Technically, this isn't an at work story, but happened due to my work. It was late spring, 1983 and I returned from vacation to find that I had to attend an emergency 2 week company school in Dallas the next Monday. We normally stayed at some apartments across the street from the training center, but they were all booked. Since it was an emergency session, the company put us up in a brand new Double Tree about a mile away. About Wednesday, we started noticing people in the hotel bar that looked vaguely familiar. The next morning I just happened to meet a lady and she was a major cast member for the original Dallas TV series. They were all staying at the same hotel while doing location shooting for the 83-84 season.
That evening she joined me and some members of my class for drinks in the bar. Good times were had by all so she flagged down a production person that asked what we were doing over the weekend. Not having any specific plans, we all said nothing, so she asked if we'd like to be extras in some scenes for be filmed at Southfork. They'd pay us $25 a day and we could eat the food and enjoy the "refreshments" afterwards. All we had to do was to show up for the bus ride out and back and have a different outfit for each day. Totally in.
We filmed most of the day on Saturday, ate and "refreshed" afterwards with the cast and crew. Sunday we filmed until about 2 and "refreshed" with all the cast and crew until about 8. All the cast, even the major players, were fun folks and joined in just like everyone else. We were all handed a $50 check (minus taxes, of course) and we all got to keep our cowboy hats. Such a deal.

I met a lot of famous athletes and coaches making Jesus Videos back in the late 1980's for the FCA. Worked on a lot of cool programs for college sports (KU K-State Mizzou), I've done stuff for the government (Homeland Security, National Archives, etc) and done some pretty cool music projects.

I make CDs and DVDs for a living.

Did a huge job for Marion Labs back in the late 1980's when Ewing Kauffman still owned the joint. One million audio cassettes for Nicorette Patch. I was able to pay cash for a new car from the profit we made on that one job. Pretty sweet. Love Mr. K.
